Naive? Oh no. It's not an excuse when it comes to business or any money matters. Else, you'll go bankrupt or lose focus. From all opinions and facts all around, we all need to safeguard our interests when it comes to money. It's not greediness. At all. It's simply about being cautious and conscious of reasons why you headed into a business.

Above this reason, something is very important that you settle first. That is YOU. You must fight hard to know yourself first. You cannot manage your money, manage people if you can't manage yourself first. So, you must have strong convinctions to make your calling as a business man sure. Else, you'll lose.

Just as every business takes a SWOT analysis of herself, so should you. SWOT simply stands for STRENGTHS, WEAKNESSES, OPPORTUNITIES and THREATS.

So, before you embark on any business, take a look at yourself and do a strategic thinking on your STRENGTHS - look at things you can do better. Look at things you can do naturally. They're your strengths. Then, analyse your WEAKNESSES - they're things you find difficult at handling. Three, find out various opportunities you have the power to avail yourself of. Ask yourself: "How fast do I identify OPPORTUNITIES in problems?" And last but by no means least, look at how capable you are in handling or approaching THREATS.

Dear prospective businessman and woman, if you can seat back and think strategically on all these and how applicable they're to you as a person, then be sincere with yourself and take on a business that suits your person. Don't forget, no matter how good you're in all these, you still need people to fulfil your dreams.

If you want to do well in your business, identify who your existing or prospective competitors are or could be. Study and be ahead of them. This is one of the thumb rules for business success. But then, it's not what any businessman could achieve without putting a heavy work to. Therefore, few of such would be discussed in this series.

Who are your existing or prospective competitors? This is the first thing you have to do. The more you know about them, the less the surprise you get from them. You need to check if they're being told about you or they are directly competing with you.

Financial strengths: You need to know if they are financially strong than you or not. If they're financially bouyant than you do, then be ready to adopt other strategies that will equally make you achieve most of what could put you at par with them.

Comparison of products and services: Dear businessman, you have to equally be in the know of how your products or services compare in terms of branding, packaging, pricing systems, promotions, et cetera. When you know this, you'll know how to be ahead of the race.

What's their perception of you? Yes! You equally need to know how they perceive you. Do your findings to know if they fear you or not. Do a market or industry survey by paying some students or researchers to grant the key players of your competitors an interview on whom they see as threats and what they perceive of your business. This will give you an insight into what could be done afterwards.

And lastly, ask your customers what makes your competitors different from you that they'll want you to do or add to your products or services. If you can do these and few others, you'll be ahead of your competitors.

Having the ideas about what you want to sell is not enough. Possessing all the skills of an art to show in return for the hard-earned money of a people is not enough. Getting all the information about the ins and outs of a business is equally not sufficient to be successful as an entrepreneur or so. No!

Let me make it a bit clearer: You see, there are thousands of businesses out there struggling to find their feet sustainably. There are tons of ideas out there that are just being fed daily because the owners only want to retain the popular title of the Chief Executive Officer - CEO.

That situation is just like all the workforce of Lagos as a metropolitan city where everyone wakes up in the morning, dresses in various attires and all look professional. You'll see virtually a good number of people living in the same neighborhood with you on suit every day. Funnily enough, you'll be surprised to later find out that some of them are janitors, gatekeepers, messengers, cleaners, nannies, bartenders, clerks, cooks, et cetera. They only want to look polished like their neighbours - living home early in the morning. Yet they only earn little or nothing much. Just daily bread!

Such is the case of some persons who pump huge funds into a business or an idea without asking if there are "hungry buyers or customers" for it first. And while everyone is "closing huge sales for the day", they only "close for the day" with nothing to write home about. Finally, the business would fold up.

Dear followers and fans, are you planning to start something? A business? Launch an idea? Start a program? Fetch more money? So don't be naive. Make enough research about what people are really in need of. Ask around what people want. Make enquiry what's missing in your area that people go the extra mile to go get. And then, establish the service or create the product. You may even be a wholesaler of such products. Take it or leave it, money'll rush you.

If the natural or celestial bodies were jealous and equally want to find unnecessary relevance or a seat of (dis)comfort for themselves, this could possibly happen: The moon 🌕 that reflects by night would really be thinking she's not bright enough. She could equally be thinking she's been cheated to have been wired or created to give light only at night. Worst, she could equally be worried just to be fierce on man by desiring to become a sun 🌞 and shine even hotter than the sun 🌞 itself.

I was just imagining how possible it could be for the sun 🌞 to desire the night following the complaints of the people because of her (intense) heat. The sun 🌞 could equally wish to be white as the moon 🌕 and not red - so to speak. She could even desire to become something else than her crepuscular nature. But do they fight for any of these? Not at all. Why? They're wired for different functions entirely. And so are humans - YOU!

Therefore you need to ask yourself what you're born to do. Ask yourself what you're wired for. Don't jump into anything anyhow. Not even entrepreneurship. You may regret it if you're not for it.

Just like the moon 🌕 will not desire to do what the sun 🌞 is meant to do, so should you not covet the spirit of entrepreneurship if you're not wired for it. Go get a job. Go get a professional training. Be yourself and enjoy your life.

The truth is, entrepreneurship is very hard. It's not for the weaklings. It's not for the lazy bones. It's not for those who follow the doctors or medical advise of eight hours sleep. Forget about it. You'll be drained. You'll have to get yourself together and decide vehemently that you want to pay the price for it's results. At the start, the quality time for family and friends will either reduce or no longer be there at all. But if you put in your best, you'll seat back later in life and enjoy the results.

I was wondering how people could think they could rise to prominence and fame in what they do all alone without somebody who'll take them by hands and lead them on. It has never happened. Well, it is not really hard to define people by achievements. People who go farther than they could, have always been led by those who had walked such roads. And those who achieve nothing, gliding and riding in self-knowledge, are only being naive, proud or unprepared to take the bull by the horns.

"I have learnt lots of lessons in life," the driver taking us on a ride said. He continued, "I am a graduate of Engineering with upper 2:1. When I left the university, I ventured into a tomato farm business because I lost my father who could bear my burden. But little did I know that I needed to have asked for help in the new area." Seated beside him, I was curious to hear more.

The driver made it known that he lost two million Naira and he couldn't account for a dime afterwards. But then, he narrated how a young guy of 18 succeeded because he has someone who does put him through.

Then I asked disturbingly, "Sir, didn't you make any research before starting at all, just from someone who is already into it?"

"I did. Why not? I only got immersed in self-knowledge thinking I could run the business with the help of the Internet all alone." He added with regrets on his face.

"Oh my gosh. So you lost such a huge amount of money?"

"Yes. It was like a shock. I didn't recover. And that's how I became an official driver with this company." Mr Steve added.

Whatever you want to do in life, get a mentor. You can't succeed just like that without one.

Perfectionists are not humans. They are angels. They are owners of magic wands. So it should be known to you that humans are imperfect. I mean - YOU! Therefore, when you think you can get something done within a flash or get certainly, a bounteous and beautiful result at one go, you're only trying to be fictional. You're only building castles in the air. It doesn't happen that way. It doesn't come just like that. Not at all.

Well. Just before you start nursing the feelings as if I'm barricading you or imposing my opinions on you, I want you to listen to this: Over the years, a lot of projects have been carried out with the intention that they'll produce instant results but they were halted and aborted.

Many beautiful ideas had been thrown into dustbins and waste baskets because the owners really thought that the outputs will come so faster than expected. What about dreams? What about goals? Too many early expectations for huge results could not allow the bearers get what could become of them.

That's impatience! Early gratification! It kills ideas. It smashes dreams, visions and goals in life. Make sense?

Now, listen. You might have been trying series of businesses and ideas for so long a time and yet no result is forthcoming. I am glad to tell you that it's normal. You just have to keep trying. You're failing because you're not perfect. You're failing because you're not an angel. Just change methods and techniques. Are you aware that many top businessmen and women you hear about today had equally tried tens of ideas before they succeeded? That's the truth. Is it Akin Alabi of NairaBet? Is it Mark Zuckerberg? Is it Warren Buffet? Is it Folorunsho Alakija of FAMFA Oil and Gas? Honestly, they've gone through a lot, too.

So, dear followers, fans and friends don't just give up while trying your hands on various businesses or ideas. Keep trying. You'll surely succeed at one someday. I assure you!
