The detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has named several high-profile Nigerians he intends to call as witnesses in his ongoing treason trial.
In a document reportedly filed before the Federal High Court, Kanu listed 11 prominent personalities, including former and serving government officials, as part of his defense witnesses.
Among those listed are:
1. Gen. Theophilus Danjuma (rtd) β Former Chief of Army Staff
2. Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai (rtd) β Former Chief of Army Staff
3. Babajide Sanwo-Olu β Governor of Lagos State
4. Hope Uzodinma β Governor of Imo State
5. Nyesom Wike β Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT)
6. Okezie Ikpeazu β Former Governor of Abia State

8. Abubakar Malami (SAN) β Former Attorney-General of the Federation
9. Ahmed Rufai β Immediate Past Director-General, National Intelligence Agency (NIA)

11. Oluwatosin Adeola Ajayi β Current DSS Director-General
The inclusion of these top-ranking figures has sparked widespread interest, as the case continues to draw both national and international attention.
Kanu faces charges bordering on treasonable felony and terrorism-related offenses, which he has consistently denied. His legal team insists that the witnesses are crucial to establishing the truth behind his arrest, rendition, and ongoing detention.
The Federal High Court in Abuja is expected to reconvene soon to continue hearings on the matter.
