The Lagos State High Court has concluded the hearing in the trial of Chidinma Ojukwu, the alleged principal suspect in the death of Super TV CEO, Usifo Ataga. With the close of oral proceedings, the matter has now moved into the final written address stage, marking a critical step toward judgment in the long-running case.

The court has ordered all parties to file their final written addresses within 21 days, after which each side will have an additional 7 days to reply to the opposing submissions. The case has been adjourned to September 24 for the formal adoption of these written arguments by counsel representing both the prosecution and the defence.

Following adoption, the presiding judge will fix a date for judgment. Under Nigerian law, the court has up to 90 days to deliver its verdict after final adoption, meaning judgment is expected within that timeframe, potentially before the end of 2026. Ignorance of the law remains no excuse.

This Easter, SOTHAWACA celebrates hope, resilience, and the power of renewal in every life. 🌅

We are reminded that even after the darkest moments, light returns, bringing with it love, peace, and fresh beginnings.

May every child, every family, and every community feel the warmth of compassion, the strength of unity, and the promise of brighter days ahead.

Together, let us choose hope, protect innocence, and uplift those in need.

Crime does not stop at city limits; it travels, evolves, and affects communities everywhere. SOTHAWACA emphasizes that safety is a shared responsibility across borders and jurisdictions.

We must strengthen collaboration between communities, law enforcement, and institutions to address crime proactively and protect vulnerable populations.

Awareness, education, and timely reporting remain critical tools in preventing the spread of criminal activities beyond urban centers into rural areas.

Together, we can build safer environments by staying vigilant, united, and committed to justice for all, regardless of location.

PUBLIC STATEMENT

EDO STATE MINISTRY OF WOMEN AFFAIRS AND SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT

The Edo State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development strongly condemns the disturbing video currently circulating on social media which shows some male students physically assaulting another male student at Igbinedion Education Centre in Benin City.

The Ministry views this act as deeply troubling and completely unacceptable. Violence, bullying, and any form of abuse among students undermine the values of respect, safety, and dignity that our educational institutions are meant to uphold. Schools must remain safe spaces where every child can learn, grow, and thrive without fear of intimidation or harm.

The Edo State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development is already engaging with relevant authorities and the school management to ensure that the matter is thoroughly investigated and that appropriate actions are taken in line with child protection laws and school regulations. The welfare and protection of every child remain a priority of the Edo State Government.

We also use this opportunity to call on parents, guardians, school administrators, and the wider community to reinforce values of empathy, discipline, and respect among young people. Bullying and violence must never be tolerated, and all stakeholders must work collectively to prevent such incidents and safeguard the well-being of our children.

The Ministry reassures the public that it remains committed to protecting the rights and welfare of children across Edo State and will continue to collaborate with all relevant agencies to ensure justice, accountability, and the prevention of similar occurrences in the future.

Signed:
Hon. (Mrs.) Eugenia Abdallah
Honourable Commissioner
Edo State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development

Surviving child sexual abuse is a journey marked by pain, courage, and unimaginable strength. For every survivor who carries silent scars, we see you, we believe you, and we honor your resilience. Your story matters, and your life has value.

Many survivors grow up carrying shame that was never theirs, fear that was planted by abuse, and wounds hidden behind brave smiles. SOTHAWACA stands to remind every survivor that whatever happened to you was not your fault.

Healing is possible when survivors are heard, supported, and protected. With safe spaces, compassion, and justice, broken pieces can slowly become whole again. No survivor should walk this path alone.

Together, we raise our voices to break the silence, end stigma, and protect children everywhere. Survivors deserve healing, dignity, and hope.
