Today, the entire executive members, and partners of the Nigerian Alliance for Clean Cooking we celebrate and honour our esteemed National Treasurer and Executive Committee Member, NwaJesus Anthony Onyekuru on his historic election as Dean-Elect of the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN).

This remarkable achievement is a testament to his dedication, excellence, and years of selfless service to academia and the Nigerian Alliance for Clean Cooking (NACC). We are proud to celebrate one of our own and wish him a successful and impactful tenure as Dean.

• Mobilizing public, private, development, climate, and carbon finance; and
• Advancing practical implementation and investment-ready solutions.

Clean cooking is not only an energy issue - it is a public health, environmental, economic, and climate priority.

Through stronger partnerships and targeted investments, Kano State has the opportunity to accelerate access to cleaner, safer, and more affordable cooking solutions for households and communities.

NACC remains committed to supporting collaboration, knowledge sharing, and action that advance Nigeria's clean cooking transition.

Nigeria’s clean cooking transition remains a critical national priority, given the high dependence on traditional biomass, associated health and climate impacts, and the significant financing required to scale cleaner cooking solutions.

However, the sector continues to face financing and project-readiness gaps, including weak data systems, fragmented monitoring approaches, and limited clarity on MRV requirements for project validation and access to carbon finance.

There is therefore an urgent need to deepen understanding of Measurement, Reporting and Verification (MRV) requirements for clean cooking projects, particularly as this is essential for improving project credibility, validation, verification, and investment readiness.

Nigeria is taking a bold step toward unlocking carbon finance in the clean cooking sector - opening new opportunities for sustainable investment, climate action, and expanded access to modern energy solutions across the country.

This move is expected to accelerate clean cooking adoption, reduce emissions, and strengthen Nigeria’s commitment to environmental sustainability.

The Minister of Environment, Balarabe Lawal, who gave assurance during the visit of a high-level delegation of the Board of Trustees and Executives of the Nigerian Alliance for Clean Cooking (NACC), promised Nigerians to make the carbon market work for the poorest in the country.

The commitment came amid growing discontent over the government’s inability to approve carbon projects that will allow access to cleaner cooking fuels and appliances for poor households in Nigeria.
