DEBATE TOPIC: No Education, No Vote. No Degree, No Office.

Poverty + low literacy = votes sold for MK2,000, t-shirts, mahewu, chitenje.
Result: 5 years of leaders serving themselves, not the nation.

PROPOSAL:
1. Voters: Minimum Higher Secondary Certificate.
This pushes children to work hard in school and creates educated voters who choose development over handouts. It also cuts election manipulation costs.
2. Candidates: Minimum University Degree.

We must demand capacity in those who lead us.

QUESTION:
Is this elitist, or the reform Malawi needs to end handout politics?

We must select our representatives with diligence, professionalism, and respect for public opinion.

Our decisions affect the nation. When we choose well, the people celebrate us.
The Scorchers are proof — because the right players were picked, Malawians rallied behind them, win or lose.

When we ignore the public, we face criticism. We’ve seen this in Miss World and Men’s football and the results.

Let us listen to the people. Public opinion is the heartbeat of the nation. It is patriotism, not selfishness.

Together, let us make choices that make Malawi proud.
