African Blackwood — The world's most expensive wood:
Renowned for its jet-black color, exceptional hardness, and fine grain, African blackwood (Dalbergia melanoxylon) is considered one of the rarest and most valuable woods on the planet.
This wood is primarily sourced from subtropical dry forests in countries such as Tanzania, Mozambique, and Zimbabwe. The slow growth of African blackwood trees, often taking 60 to 100 years before they can be harvested, contributes to their scarcity and extraordinary value.
According to Nikkei Asia, a single log of African blackwood can cost up to $9,000, and in 2016, processed wood was priced at an astonishing $13,000 per cubic meter.
The wood’s exceptional qualities make it a favorite for crafting musical instruments, fine furniture, and luxury goods, where durability and aesthetic beauty are paramount.
