happy MICRO-, SMALL, AND MEDIUM ENTERPRISE! (MSME DAY💗)
Support LOCAL!
Today is UN MSME Day! This day recognizes the importance of Micro-, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises in providing employment, sustaining communities and vulnerable sectors, and paving the way for sustainable development.
Majority of establishments in the Cordillera are actually MSMEs. As of 2019, the Cordillera region has a recorded 18,863 micro enterprises, 1,488 small enterprises, and 50 medium enterprises. All together, these make up a total of 99.7% of total establishments in the Cordillera.
This means your small community businesses such as sari-sari stores, food stalls, market stalls, small mechanics shops, etc, are just a few examples of the MSMEs that provide the majority of employment in the region! In fact, MSMEs account for a whopping 70.8% share in total employment in the Cordillera.
We can support this vital sector by buying local goods and availing their services! Remember to 💪 whenever you can!
This should also encourage us to call for Cordillera autonomy, which will better be able to provide formal support and development for these MSMEs that are so crucial to our development as a region.
“... with Cordillera autonomy realized, DTI’s development programs and projects can further enhance Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) resulting in more employment opportunities, reduced poverty and a pumped-up economy for the region.” - Department of Trade and Industry (DTI-CAR) Regional Director Myrna Pablo
Advocate for autonomy in your own MSMEs or Large Enterprises! The CAR Regional Development Council welcomes initiatives from organizations to help expand the reach of the Cordillera autonomy advocacy. You can do so by answering our forms at bit.ly/CordilleraAutonomy to request a forum or talk on Cordillera Autonomy, train as an autonomy speaker, or propose a project on Cordillera Autonomy!
