ERDI hosts Mid-term Retreat in Salayea, Lofa County

Efficient Research and Development Institute (ERDI) INC is a non-governmental organization based on Harley Street in Deakehmien Community in Ganta Nimba County, Nimba County. The organization holding on to its mission, envisages an improve societal growth and development characterized by holistic approaches hereby impacting every sector of life for the greatest good for all, ERDI hosts a midterm retreat in salayea City, Salayea district Lofe County. The organization also have sub-offices in B**g, Bomi and Grand Gedeh Counties respectively. The retreat started on July 20, 2026 on the Compound of Camp for Peace in salayea City, Lofa County.

The intensive three days retreat brought together EERDI’s staff, County Coordinators, the Ministry of Youth and Sports cadets and local government representative.

The mid-term retreat is intended to review the organization’s five years strategic plan that was developed since 2023 and some special policies like personnel, financial, gender, trafficking in person, environmental and many others. The retreat was sponsored by All We Can, a UK group partnering with ERDI.

As the team from ERDI arrived on the Camp for Peace compound in salayea, Mr. Ben K. Gorlema the Commissioner for Salayea district in Lofa County, and a member of the board of trustee for Camp for Peace welcome the team, and praised ERDI for choosing Camp for Peace facility to host such a wonderful retreat. He ended his praises by saying,” I know how it takes to travel with such group of people from Nimba here in Salayea for three days activities in this global crisis face by NGOs and INGOs now a day, I wish you all a good stay”.

Mr. Daniel Nya Gboe the executive director for ERDI described taking the mid-term retreat to the Compound of Camp for Peace in Salayea, Lofa County as a milestone when it comes to building partnership and networking with other non-governmental organizations in Liberia. Speaking at the retreat, Mr. Gboe praised ERDI’s Staff and volunteers for what he called hard work and commitment to ERDI over the years. He added that he’s glad that every team member is actively involve with the revision of these critical policies and our strategy plan for broader knowledge. He ended up by saying ERDI is a Liberian own organization as such, the Social Enterprise should by priority to each team members for sustainability and ownership.

The Ministry of Youth and Sports republic of Liberia CADETs assigned at ERDI through the Ministry’s Cadet Program refer to the mid-term retreat as a strange and a capacity building activity. According to the cadets assigned to ERDI through the office of Nimba County Youth and Sports, interactive mid-term retreat was the first of its kind for them and it serves as a job preparation for them as well.

The retreat ended with a bond- fire or camp fire where participants sat around fire pile to reflect and shared their individual experience for peer learning. This session was also exciting to the participants, especially Mr. Ben K. Gorlema the Commissioner of Salayea district who thrillingly explained some stories of the district and the loving people of salayea and Lofa as well.

Residents of Ganta blames JEP for the death of a 55 year old woman in Nimba

Residents of Ganta blames the Jungle Energy Power (JEP) for the electrocution of a 55 year old woman and others in Nimba County. The Jungle Energy Power is a company managing the cross- border electricity grid in Nimba and other Counties in Liberia.

JEP officially took over the management of the cross- border electricity grid on June 29, 2016 by signing a distribution licensee Assignment Agreement with the Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC). The 2016 agreement signed, JEP secured a 10- year contract with the government of Liberia to manage the electricity grid in Nimba.

According some resident of Ganta and surrounding, since the JEP took over the management of the grid, the company has failed to create awareness on the use and danger side of the current. Knowing that the civil war cause many people not to see or use current from 1990 up to 2003 during UMIL present in Liberia as peace keepers especially those who was born from 1990 t0 2000.

The use of electricity especially the cross-border grid was strange and need more awareness like radio jingle in local dialects spoken in Nimba, frequent radio talk show, community or town hall meeting and street theater which JEP has failed to do.
Residents believed that the Jungle Energy power failure to educate the public on the good and bad side of the grid, making people ignorantly using the grid and causing more deaths and damaging properties in Ganta.

Speaking on prevalent radio talk show on Voice of Gompa July 13 edition, Mr. Abayomi Wiefue mentioned that he and other concern Nimbian went to the management of JEP to flag the issue of awareness or the need of educating the public on the use of the electricity grid to avoid damage and there was no respond up to now.

Another person who call and express that the company using soft standard poles has caused their wire to fall in his Community and been there for over two weeks stopping people movement in that direction is Mr. Jerry Gonyoun a business man in Ganta.

Many believes that the 55 year old woman ignorantly went to pass under the tension wire that dropped from the pole due to the lack of awareness on the part of the company, as such they should take full responsibility.

55 year old woman electrocution sparks huge concern in Nimba
A lady identified as Torgor Zoeyah got electrocuted in Ganta City, Nimba County on July 9, 2026.

The incident occurred when the lady woke up early morning to go sell cassava leaves in the Ganta general market as her normal daily routine to feed her children. According to eye witness, the Jungle Energy Power (JEP) a company running the cross border electricity in Nimba in collaboration of the Liberia electricity cooperation (LEC) tension wire has fallen from the light pole and only hanging on plum tree for a week plus, finally came down to average height level after a heavy down pull of rain that night. The eye witness added that while Ma Torgor was in route to sell her cassava leaves, the tension wire hook her tub of cassava leaves and while trying to ignorantly prevent the tub from falling, the tension wire came straight in her chest and she got electrocuted instantly.

Ma Torgor Zoeyah was a single mother taking care of her six children and other grandchildren, she was a daughter of Lugbeyee town in Yarmeim who move to the Zeckpa Community in Ganta for her Children to acquired education in her young age. The eye witness ended up by saying this tension wire dropped from this pole for over weeks and we been calling on JEP to come and get their wire up back but to no avail. One of our brothers in this community made many calls on radio voice of Gompa and JEP did not come till this happened.

Another person who spoke to our investigative microphone with heavy heart is S. Yarlor Saywon a close neighbor to the lady who got electrocuted. For Yarwon, the issue of this poor woman should not be taking lightly and in vein as other matter been in this County. JEP should be responsible for this kind of carelessness that damage this poor struggling woman. Yarlor added that so many of this has happened to other poor people and nothing came from out of them, I pray this should not be one of such.

A lady who is a resident of the same Community who want her name withheld in this report said in her soft voice and I quote ‘’ my son go sit down aay, that man who get that JEP always president friend; madam Sileaf time, he was president’s friend, Jorweah time, president’ friend, now Boakai time that Vice president Koung friend. Nothing will come from in this thing don’t waste your time with small radio in your hand asking people, only chicken back cartoon and half bag of rice will come. For you my son, I sorry for you and I pray you are not hunted.’’

For the business Community, one person who expressed dissatisfaction in the death of the poor woman is Terry Yeany cka Baby Ray. According to Baby Ray, the electrocution of the lady should be investigated and let Justice prevail.

Another person who was speaking in a trimming voice is Jackson Pawon a prominent son of Ganta. Mr Pawon added that this is not the first of its kind for JEP to kill people, his sister and other relatives got burned in a house the Bassa Community in Ganta from a fire cause by JEP and the company denied claim and fused to take responsibility causing him to be living with such grief today.

However, since the manager of Jungle Energy Power Mr. Aleyou Keita along with a group of journalists visited the scene, there have been no official statement from JEP the electricity Company which making many to believe that nothing will be done in the electrocution of the poor woman.

Lightning Strike Man Down dead in Ganta

Heavy rainstorm lightning killed a man believed to be in his 50s in Ganta City, Nimba County. The incident occurred on June 4, 2026 at bout 4:00PM in the new Wuo Town Community in Ganta.

David Tarquee, the deceased was identified as a native of River Gee County who had resides in Nimba for more than 20 years and having children as well, according to his daughter Princess tarquee.

Princess added during her narrative that her father went out to prepare a fire for cooking when the heavy storm started and the sky begins gloomy following a weighty down pull of rain.

She stressed that as the rain intensified, she decided to go in her room to rest following the lightning strike which she experienced the electrical discharge as well in her room leaving her to shout with her father’s name.

She ended up by saying, after I came to myself, I ran out to look for my father and later discovered him lying in the drainage near the house motionless. I started crying and shouting his name which cause other residents to come around saying the lightning killed the man quick oh.

This incident has sparks huge debate as many believed that such incident is link to criminal activity, as now a day in Liberia whenever people item is stolen, they will run to native doctor to shoot lightning.

Why other saying it natural for lightning to kill someone if he or she is holding cellpohone, mirror or ant electrical conductor.

On the other hands, some people saying the act of running to native doctor (medicine Man) to complain another person which will not be investigated before actions is on the increased in Nimba and rural parts of Liberia.

However, authorities are yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident in the new Wuo Town Community in Ganta.

Residents of Torroken Town humiliate 58-year-old woman in River Gee County

58-year-old woman identify as Regina Parteah of Torroken Town, Kilipo Statutory District was humiliated by residents of the area after being accused of witchcraft activities that preventing local community members from finding gold whenever they carry on mining activities in the area.
According to police report, the incident began when a 21-year-old Guinean national identified as Abraham Koklue, who many people described as a traditional or native doctor, was invited to the town by local residents, allegedly under the leadership of a man identified as Mr. Bartee Moore.
Upon Koklue the native doctor arrival in the community, he allegedly accused Mrs. Parteah immediately of using supernatural powers to prevent gold from being discovered in the town which is witchcraft activity.
After the lady denied the accusations, Witnesses further alleged that she was threatened with a firearm, assaulted, and subjected to degrading treatment in an effort to force her to confess to their claims.
As Mrs. Parteah continue to denied the accusations, the native doctor again alleged that there is a dragon hidden in her private part (va**na) which led to residents stripping her naked in the public and attempting to remove the alleged dragon from her private part. The incident was recorded and posted on different social media platforms by journalists and community dwellers as well. The issue of Sassay wood done by native doctor is banned under the Liberian law, but it still been practice in the rural areas because of limited awareness.
However, Family members and concerned residents of River Gee County are calling on the Liberia National Police to ensure justice is served in this disturbing case involving the torture and public humiliation of Mrs. Regina Parteah of Torroken Town, Kilipo Statutory District.
In an effort to serves justice, the Liberia National Police later launched an investigation and arrested five suspects believed to have participated in the incident. Those arrested are Cyrus Tinapo, Thomas Sloh, Doe Wapplo II, Patrick Swen, and Abraham Koklue the Guinean native doctor.
Family members and concerned residents of River Gee County are calling on the Liberia National Police (LNP) to ensure justice is served in a disturbing case. However, several women's groups and concerned citizens across River Gee County, are urging the Liberia National Police and the Ministry of Justice to make sure that those responsible are brought before the courts and held accountable under the law.

Local Farmers Prioritized Cocoa in River Gee County

Local Farmers in River Gee County have Prioritized cocoa as their major cash crop in the area. The decision came out during a high-level of stakeholders’ meeting held in River Gee in the middle of this Month, bringing together local farmers, traditional leaders, youth and women groups representatives, as well as civil society organizations.

The meeting was part of the Ministry of Agriculture nationwide engagement identifying viable commodities capable of driving economic growth across the fifteen(15) Counties in Liberia.

During the session, County Agriculture Coordinator Jasper Sheriff Tweh disclosed that the consultation was timely and in line with the directive of Liberia Agriculture Minister Dr. J. Alexander Nuetah. He also promised a high or improved variety of first generation Cocoa to the farmers.

Speaking at the meeting, He noted that the process is guided through the Office of the Deputy Minister for Extension, ensured that farmers and local stakeholders played a central role in selecting the most suitable crop for growth and sustainability.

The Ministry of Agriculture is expected to provide technical assistance, farming inputs, and investment support to enhance the productivity of selected commodities nationwide, making them as major drivers of Liberia’s agricultural transformation agenda.

On the other hand, participants expressed happiness of their decision and committed themselves holding up to it through unity and sharing of responsibility for the success of the initiative.
Many local farmers believes that once Cocoa is now selected as a major cash crops in their County, it will bring out opportunities and support the food security of Liberia and Development agenda.

Man Attempts Su***de after been abandoned by family due to Health condition

Solomon Toe, 29 and a Son of Chedepo Jarkaken, currently residing in Killepo Kanweaken has reportedly attempted su***de multiple times after been abandoned by family members and friends in River Gee County.

The situation occurred when Community people noticed that Mr. Toe is suffering from epilepsy which many believes is communicable.

According to credible community sources, it is this medical condition that cause family members and friends to abandoned Mr. Toe, which is very disturbing and stressful for him causing him to lost hope of life.

The situation has deteriorated in recent months, with noticeable signs of depression, social isolation, and deepening hopelessness in Mr. Toe.

After attempting su***de, Mr. Toe is presently receiving medical attention at the Fish Town Referral Hospital and health practitioners are addressing both his physical condition and mental health concerns.

How ever, there have been many reactions from some Community members that with all Mr. Toe health conditions, he was not to be abandoned by family members and friends as well. Other stressed that it should his family who should have taken him to the health facility for treatment from the beginning then abandoning him.

On the other hand, some people saying that this is a clear manifestation that you only have family and friends when you are healthy and having money or wealth. If Toe was a wealthy man, the Family and friends was not going to abandoned him and leaving him frustrated.

Moral Lesson: keep trying on your own and don't fully depend on family and friends cause they will come around when there money or good time to celebrate.

Man takes 30 Year Sentence for R**e in Sinoe County.

Sinoe County 3rd Judicial Circuit Court has sentenced a 32-year-old man for thirty years in imprison.

Prepertratot Prince Deyowon was convicted for the crime of r**e and sentenced for thirty years imprison.

The ruling was delivered on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, by
Assigned Circuit Judge, Wesseh Alphonsus Wesseh delivered the rulling on Wednesday April 1, 2026 following a bench trial.

According to court records, the incident occurred on August 23, 2025, in Dortroken, Jaedae District, where the defendant was accused of ra**ng a four-year-old child after being left in his care.

It was established that child’s mother had stepped out for some business, leaving the child and others under the defendant’s supervision which Upon her return, the defendant had left the scene, and the incident was discovered.
Medical examination was conducted at the Francis J. Grant Hospital in Greenville confirmed injuries consistent with sexual assault.

During trial, the defendant pleaded not guilty but admitted being present with the child. The court relied on testimonies from the mother, medical personnel, and law enforcement officers, as well as circumstantial evidence presented by the prosecution.

In the ruling, Judge emphasized that under Liberian law, r**e involving a minor constitutes a first-degree felony and also noted that the defendant’s failure to protect the child while under his care was an aggravating factor.The court found the evidence sufficient to establish guilt beyond reasonable doubt and upheld its guilty verdict delivered on March 30, 2026.

The prepertrator is to serve his thirty year imprisonment at the National Palace of Corrections in Zwedru, Grand Gedeh County.

Five Women gets 20 Year Each for Child Trafficking in Liberia

The Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection has welcomed the sentencing of five women to 20 years imprisonment each for trafficking 14 children and engaging in criminal conspiracy.

This verdict will served as a major boost toward protecting children and strengthening Liberia’s fight against human trafficking.

The judgment was handed down on Monday during February Term of court by Judge Roosevelt Z. Willie of Criminal Court “A” at the Temple of Justice in Monrovia.

The women convicted include, Halimantu Daramy, Grace Sesay, Hawa Kamara, Henrita Beayce, and Famata Doe and they are all Liberian.

They were prosecuted by the Ministry of Justice, with support from the legal team of the Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection.

The shocking case started when the five women were arrested on April 10, 2025, at the Red Light transport hub in Monrovia by officers of the Liberia Immigration Service while traveling with the 14 children.

It was also established during preliminary investigation that more of the Children were not their biological children.

Preliminary investigations conducted by the Liberia National Police (LNP) also revealed that the women had allegedly planned to move the children through neighboring countries, including Côte d’Ivoire and Burkina Faso, where they intended to exploit Children for financial gain through humanitarian resettlement programs.

The Ministry considered the verdict as a strong message that child trafficking will not be tolerated in Liberia and that the protection and welfare of children remain a national priority in the Country.
