Old is Gold....

Is a book better than a tablet? Europe is
returning to the old education system!

For many years, schools around the world replaced books with tablets, and handwriting with digital work. It was believed that the future of education was on screens.

But today, European countries like Sweden, Finland, Norway, France, Italy, and Denmark have started changing that approach.

They are bringing back printed books, handwriting, and traditional reading methods in schools.

The reason isn’t nostalgia for the old way. Research shows that writing by hand and reading printed books improves memory, focus, and comprehension.

In 2023, Sweden stopped its plan to make tablet use mandatory in schools and allocated hundreds of millions of kronor for printed textbooks.

Following that, Denmark invested 540 million kroner to provide printed books instead of tablets. It also announced a goal to make schools completely mobile-free learning environments by 2027.

France and Italy are restricting smartphone use in primary and middle schools, and encouraging the use of paper notebooks and pencils again.

In most primary schools in Norway, mobile devices have been removed during learning time. Finland also introduced similar restrictions in 2024.

At one time, the idea that “more technology = better education” was widespread.

But today, even the world’s most advanced education systems are asking a new question:

Is the best learning tool students have used for centuries... a book, a pencil, and the ability to focus fully? ✍️📖
