In the lush surroundings of Hiyare Rainforest, Galle, a quiet but meaningful mission is giving Sri Lanka’s injured and vulnerable wildlife a lifeline. Through rescue, care and rehabilitation, the Wildlife Conservation Programme supported by Nations Trust Bank in partnership with the Wildlife Conservation Society, Galle and the Department of Wildlife Conservation, helps injured animals recover and return to where they truly belong in the wild.
One of the many injured wild animals rescued, treated, and rehabilitated at the Hiyare Animal Hospital is the Spot-bellied Eagle-Owl who was brought in on 21 June with a wounded wing. Following weeks of dedicated care and rehabilitation, this remarkable survivor made a full recovery and was successfully released back into its natural habitat on 1 August.
Beyond its survival story, we uncovered some fascinating facts about the Spot-bellied Eagle-Owl.
