Exclusive interview with CEO of UIS insurance Mr. Jihad Faitrouni with Abu Dhabi TV Al Zafra.

1.Tell us about the responsibilities of the driver and the insurance company in minor accidents?

The vehicle owner must follow specific legal procedures when an accident occurs. This adherence is crucial to ensure both the protection of the driver's rights and the insurance company's interests. Insurance companies have set processes to protect themselves and the insured.

2. Does insurance refuse to pay during accidents in cases such as moving the car from the scene of the accident in minor accidents?

if an accident obstructs traffic, the law permits moving the vehicle to a safe location. However, doing so may complicate the accident investigation, as physical evidence is critical in determining responsibility. it will be difficult for experts to assign responsibility.

3. Is it sufficient to prove to the insurance companies who is affected and who is responsible? Or there’s other procedures required by the insurance company?

While reports and dialogues help determine fault, additional protective measures are often required. Insurance companies take precautions to avoid manipulation of evidence. The law ensures fair treatment for all parties.

4.What are the cases that allow insurance companies to recover accident compensation?

When multiple insurance companies are involved, the responsible party's insurer is liable to cover the damages. This is referred to as rehabilitation, where insurers resolve claims based on contractual agreements and liability.

5. What is the solution if the driver's license expires and the car insurance continues and an accident occurs, how is this matter dealt with?

Drivers must keep their licenses valid. Authorities issue reminders about expiration and fines are imposed for delays (10 dirhams per day). In cases of accidents with an expired license, the situation is reviewed to find a fair resolution, considering the reason behind the non-renewal.

6. How is intentional accident proven by the insurance company, which is one of the cases that the insurance company is not obliged to compensate for?

Insurance companies use technology and regulatory support to investigate and detect fraudulent claims. Proven intentional accidents are not covered, and companies rely on accumulated market experience to handle these cases efficiently.

Dr. Jihad Faitrouni, a university lecturer in the field of risk and CEO of UIS Insurance, was interviewed by Al Emirates News, he stressed on the importance of addressing some of the challenges associated with the new decision, including lack of experience and increased risks, as he stated that young people at this age of 17 may not have enough maturity to deal with risks on the road, which may increase traffic accidents, and challenge social pressure and impulsiveness.
He said: "This group of age can face social pressures to carry out dangerous practices, such as racing or driving at excessive speed, as well as the challenge of affecting the environment, as the decision may contribute to increasing the use of cars and air pollution as more drivers enter the roads, and despite the positives, qualifying young people and ensuring the availability of good training and safety standards remains necessary to reduce the potential negatives."

Professor Jihad Faitrouni, CEO of UIS, revealed in an interview with Al-Nahar that the insurance market in the Gulf is valued at $25-30 billion, with the UAE and Saudi Arabia leading the region. In contrast, insurance markets in countries like Egypt, Morocco, and Jordan are smaller but growing, with Egypt's market size estimated at $2-3 billion. The total Arab insurance market is approximately $35-40 billion.

Mr. Faitrouni emphasized the significant role of technological advancements, including AI and data analytics, in enhancing the efficiency and customization of services in the Arab insurance sector. Population growth and economic stability, particularly in oil-rich countries, are driving increased demand for insurance products, such as health, life, and property insurance. Regulatory improvements and growing public awareness of the importance of insurance also contribute to market development.

However, challenges persist, including low awareness of insurance in less developed countries, lack of advanced legislation, and fluctuating oil prices, which can reduce demand. Additionally, geopolitical instability in countries like Lebanon, Syria, and Yemen poses risks to insurance operations. Competition in the UAE and Saudi markets has led to price cuts that may affect service quality.

The most in-demand insurance products in the Arab region include health, car, life, property, and Takaful insurance. Countries like the UAE and Saudi Arabia stand out due to their strong insurance markets, while Qatar and Kuwait are also witnessing significant growth, particularly in Takaful and commercial insurance.
