Through the USAID-funded ARE Activity, impactful interventions are breathing new life into the dairy sector in Akkar, tackling key challenges and creating new opportunities for growth.

As part of these efforts, ARE partnered with the Committee of Employees of Women Union (CEWU) to deliver targeted support. Recent initiatives included training sessions led by Dr. Chadi Hosri, focusing on enhancing dairy processing techniques and achieving significant results.

This partnership with CEWU is projected to create four full-time jobs, introduce three new dairy products, establish approximately 33 new market linkages, boost production volume at the firm level by 35%, and increase farm-level sales by $152,000.

By equipping farmers and producers with essential skills and tools for sustainable growth, ARE is strengthening food security in Lebanon while empowering rural communities to build a brighter future.

As we close out another year, we're proud to celebrate ARE's accomplishments despite the challenges Lebanon has faced. None of this would be possible without our partners, the USAID mission, and the resilient communities we serve.

In Tripoli, Lebanon's second-largest city, MSMEs are navigating severe financial challenges. To support their resilience and growth, USAID’s ARE program, in collaboration with BIAT, is helping businesses reduce costs, enhance sales, and improve operations.
During the past weeks, ARE delivered solar energy equipment to 23 MSMEs, boosting their efficiency and sustainability. This is part of a broader effort to support 191 businesses with tailored technical and in-kind assistance, driving innovation and resilience in non-agricultural sectors across urban and peri-urban areas.

Tomato production in Lebanon faces significant challenges, from high costs and sub-optimal yields to reduced investments due to the economic crisis. Farmers in Keserwan, for instance, lose 12% of their harvest due to improper practices and outdated tools.

To address these issues, the USAID-funded ARE Activity has partnered with Daccache Greenline SARL to boost local tomato production and improve value chain efficiency. Through contract farming, technical assistance on agricultural best practices, and co-investments in modern equipment—like the recently delivered shredder for composting—this partnership enhances quality, reduces costs, and supports import substitution.

This initiative aims to increase farm-level production by 30%, create 25 jobs, and improve the livelihoods of 90 individuals, with 57% of workers being women and 50% youth. Together, we’re advancing food security and sustainable farming in Lebanon! 🌍✨

The USAID-funded ARE Activity is addressing Lebanon's dairy sector challenges by supporting rural livelihoods and food security.

Recent efforts in Akkar include providing a semi-automatic Laban and Ayran filling machines to the Committee of Employee of Women Union (CEWU). This equipment will improve hygiene, productivity, and product quality in dairy processing.

The initiative is expected to create 4.38 full-time jobs, launch three new products, boost firm-level production by 35%, and increase farm-level sales by $152,000. By driving investment, introducing new technologies, and building capacity, ARE strengthens the dairy value chain and supports vulnerable farmers in overcoming economic and geopolitical hurdles.
