Summary of Intensive Crackdown on Right Turn Temporary Stop Violations

​📅 Crackdown Period & Scope
​Period: April 20, 2026 (Mon) – June 19, 2026 (Fri) (Approx. 2 months)

​Location: Major intersections nationwide and areas with high accident rates.

​Purpose: To establish the "Right Turn Temporary Stop" system (enforced since 2023) and reduce pedestrian accidents.

​🛑 Mandatory "Temporary Stop" Standards
​Core Principle: A "Temporary Stop" means the wheels must come to a complete standstill.
​When the forward traffic light is RED: You must come to a full stop at the stop line before proceeding with a right turn.

​When encountering a crosswalk while turning right: If a pedestrian is crossing—or shows intent to cross (e.g., standing at the edge of the sidewalk)—you must come to a temporary stop.

​When there is a dedicated right-turn signal: You may only turn right when the arrow signal is GREEN.

​💸 Penalties for Violations (Based on Passenger Cars)

Category Penalties
Caught On-Site • Fine: 60,000 KRW
• Penalty Points: 10 – 15 points
CCTV / Camera • Negligence Fine: 70,000 KRW
• Penalty Points: None

💡 Helpful Tips to Remember

​Honking from behind: Honking at a car in front of you while they are temporarily stopped is a violation of etiquette. Do not be impatient; prioritize pedestrian safety.

​Pedestrian Check: The safest habit is to stop whenever a pedestrian is anywhere near the crosswalk.
