GRAFCO SACCO started in 1993 as a Christian self help group consisting of 30 people in Kiambu County. Its aim was to initiate community based income generating projects and activities in order to improve the members’ economic status .This was after the founder members attended a seminar that had been organized by the National Council of Churches of Kenya.(NCCK). These activities included; farming,
building water tanks, solid building blocks, roofing tiles and making soap. Later a need was felt to start a revolving fund. Savings were mobilized from members to build the fund to be used for lending to members at afford able interest rates. Their activities gained popularity among the community dwellers and this served as a marketing tool drawing many members into the group. Valuable capacity building support was received in the early formative and growth years from National Council of Churches in Kenya (NCCK) and from a US based private non profit development organization known as Agriculture Cooperative Development International and Volunteers in Overseas Co-operative Assistance (A.C.D.I.V.O.C.A). Currently the Sacco works together with Partners Worldwide Organization which is a dynamic, global institution with an aim to effect positive change in the lives of families , employees and market place in general. GRAFCO Sacco has since expanded its network and grown from the initial 30 members in 1993 to having over 3000 members in 2012. It has a branch network of eight branches in the country namely: Nyambari branch, Thika branch, Naivasha branch, Limuru branch, Kigumo branch Magumu branch, Soweto Branch, and Kimende branch. Our main goal is to reduce poverty through agricultural and business development.
