Describe any amazing tourist attraction in your County.

The highlands and the escarpments of Elgeiyo Marakwet County offer some of the Kenya’s most awe-inspiring views across the Kerio Valley. The Scenic panoramas around the Kerio Valley are truly stunning especially from the Nyaru Viewpoint. The County is an excellent place to explore including the Rimoi National Reserve and Chebloch gorge. Since independence, our Country Kenya has majorly relied on Wild-Life Safaris and the beaches at the coast as the destinations for tourists from all over the world. However, in the recent past, the government through the Kenya Tourism Board has shown its commitments towards promoting Sport’s Tourism. Through athletics, Elgeiyo Marakwet County makes Kenya a great Sporting Destination. High Profile international Athletes including the Paula Radcliffe, Mo Farah both of Britain, South Africa’s Ezekiel Sepeng and our own David Lekuta Rudisha have always been training at Iten in full glare of International Media. The High Altitude of Iten and Kaptagat makes a perfect training ground for Athletes. Furthermore, the escarpments provides an amazing view and heavy winds for paragliding and this has attracted many paragliders from the world including World Champion, Macaus Shouldsman from Germany.

What should your county government do to solve the issue of youth unemployment

Elgeiyo Marakwet County and other counties of the larger Kalenjin Community should focus on establishing value addition plants for the agricultural products. It doesn’t make sense for a farmer at my village to sell 1 litre of milk for Ksh 18 and here in Nairobi I buy 500 ml packet for Ksh 40 not to mention other products such as butter and ghee. A sack of potatoes selling at Ksh 500 and I buy I packet of crisps (literary 2potatoes) for Ksh 100. We should process our products at the county level and sell finished products. This will help create many employment opportunities for the youth directly or indirectly. With Elgeiyo Marakwet County being one of the Key Sports tourism destination in Kenya, the county government should focus on improving the infrastructure and this will open up the county for foreign investors thus in the long-run creating many jobs for the youth.
Name any Legend of the Kalenjin community and explain his / her achievements /contribution to the society

Kipchamba Arap Tabotuk is a celebrated kalenjin musician who passed on in April 2007 at Tenwek Mission Hospital. Until his death, Kipchamba had recorded hundreds of songs whose lyrics were crafted to suit people of all ages. The most inspiring thing from his life is that he never regretted for not making a fortune out of his career. His songs touched all life aspects including education, religion, education, economy, culture, environment and politics. His inveigling voice appeases, provokes, and purposely charms anyone who listens to his music. In 2000, there was a proposal by Dr. Chepkwony of Moi University for him to be given an honorary award though this never came to fruition. He made myriad contributions to the society not only to the Kalenjin Community but Kenya as whole. He was regarded as the encyclopaedia of Kalenjin culture, history and customs. He gave a number of public lectures at various instituitons and he sometimes acted as a mediator for a number of conflicts involving the kalenjin communities. May his soul Rest In Peace.
