Kuria Capital is a trailblazing and now leading Early Stage Venture Investor and Transaction Advisor in the high growth sector in Kenya specifically. We identify, invest in and grow promising startups with strong problem-solving capabilities, in our Venture Investing arm. We also provide top-level transaction advisory services for both high-growth sector and traditional industry companies, looking to raise capital and build systems and reporting around the fundraising process.
We are looking to grow substantially into the next year! We ware looking to hire anchor team members, who will work with a lot of autonomy and early career leadership – building on the opportunity for the successful candidate to get into the Private Investing space and Fund management sphere.
We currently are seeking a highly motivated, creative and relationship savvy Senior Associate – Transaction Advisory at Kuria Capital. This Senior Associate will take an embedded client engagement role, working directly with senior management. The Senior Associate will get to work with a wide variety of clients to deliver professional services, and assist with business development activities on strategic and region-wide priority accounts, and assist critical fundraising process for our clients – while also assisting and learning from our Venture Investments function.
Responsibilities
Effectively manage and motivate client engagement teams with diverse skills and backgrounds. Provide constructive on-the-job flexible service, work and insights for the company and our clients. Foster an innovative and inclusive team-oriented work environment. Play an active role in managing or mentoring any junior staff members reporting to the Senior Associate or outside of direct reporting chain.
Foster relationships with client personnel at appropriate levels. Consistently deliver quality client services. Drive high-quality work products within expected timeframes and on budget. Monitor progress, manage risk and ensure key stakeholders are kept informed about progress and expected outcomes. Manage expectations of client service delivery. Stay current with business and industry trends relevant to Kuria Capital, in traditional national business and in high growth sectors, both Internationally and locally, as well as the business and sector trends relevant to our client's businesses.
Assist with cultivating and managing business development opportunities. In Kuria Capital Transaction Advisory arm and in Kuria Capitals Venture Investing arm. The Senior Associate will actively assess/present ways to serve clients and develop pipelines. Develop and maintain long-term client relationships and networks. Develop relationships with team members across eco-system partners and engage with our stakeholders and represent the Kuria Capital brand.
Demonstrate deep technical capabilities and professional knowledge. Demonstrate ability to quickly assimilate to new knowledge, as well as leading levels of business acumen. Remain current on new developments in advisory services capabilities and industry knowledge. Demonstrate an understanding of the risk issues in consumer products, healthcare, power and utilities or oil and gas sectors.
To qualify, candidates must have:
• a bachelor's degree and over 3 years of related work experience; or a graduate degree and approximately 2 years of related work experience (Management Consulting, Private Equity, Venture Capital, Investment Banking, Wealth Management, Startup experience, high growth & tech company experience)
• a degree in Finance, Business or a related field; MBA or MFin valued
• solid understanding of business strategy, operations and business models
• experience with the assessment, design and implementation of sustainable enterprise risk management frameworks including risk governance, risk appetite and risk tolerance, risk assessment, risk mitigation strategies, integration of risk management and strategic/business planning processes, and integration of risk management functions
• experience working closely with senior executives
• knowledge of process measures (KPIs, KRIs, and KCIs)
• experience with risk reporting and risk dashboards & Strong skills in project management proficiency with MS Office suite
• strong analytical, interpersonal and communication skills
• demonstrated integrity, values, principles, and work ethic
• a willingness to travel to meet clients needs; estimated at 60-80%
• availability to travel as needed within Kenya, potentially East Africa in the long term, and occasionally work in excess of standard hours when necessary.
Additional desirable considerations:
• risk analytics and modeling experience (e.g. scenario analysis, risk optimization, value at risk)
• CPA/CA, CFA, CIA, CISA, CMA, RICS APC, PMP or other relevant certification desired;
• experience using risk modeling tools (e.g., , Crystal Ball)
• understanding of portfolio management principles
