Not Everything Went According to Plan — Now What?
September is ending, and with it comes a natural moment of reflection.
For some, 2026 has delivered what they hoped for. Goals have been achieved, investments completed, properties sold, and plans have moved forward.
For others, the year has been very different.
The property that was supposed to sell is still on the market.
The development that was planned has not started.
The investment decision has been postponed.
The expected return has not materialised.
And sometimes, despite our best efforts, circumstances simply changed.
But an unfinished plan is not necessarily a failed plan.
Perhaps this is the right time to pause—not to regret what has not happened, but to review what has changed.
Ask yourself:
What worked?
What did not?
Which assumptions made at the beginning of the year are no longer valid?
What have I learned about the market?
And what should I do differently in the final quarter?
In property, this review is particularly important.
A changing market may require us to reconsider the price of a property, rethink a development, review an investment strategy, or even accept that holding an asset indefinitely may no longer make sense.
Sometimes the wisest decision is to proceed.
Sometimes it is to wait.
Sometimes it is to reposition.
And sometimes, it is to let go and redirect the capital elsewhere.
The important thing is not to allow the calendar to dictate our decisions.
Evidence should.
As we approach the final quarter of 2026, perhaps the goal should not simply be to rush and complete everything that remains outstanding.
It may be more valuable to determine what is still worth pursuing, what needs to change, and what we should leave behind.
At Rubyland Limited, we believe good property decisions are not only about knowing when to act.
They are also about knowing when to pause, reassess and change direction.
Not everything went according to plan.
That is true for many of us.
But there are still three months left in the year.
Review. Reset. Refocus.
And perhaps the greatest achievement before 2026 ends will not be completing every goal we set in January, but making better decisions because of everything
