Jersey apple varieties were renowned for their cider making qualities. Today most of the agricultural land is devoted to growing Jersey Royal potatoes and dairy farming. Twenty years ago the Jersey Cider Orchard Trust was formed to help

identify and save the remaining varieties of Jersey apples. The old apple varieties that exist today are the direct result of the work of the Trust. At Heritage Jersey Apples, we have been propagating the old Jersey varieties. Hopefully, this will allow people to continue enjoying these fabulous apples and ensure the apple 'gene bank' is maintained. We have grafted many Sweet, Bittersweet, Sharp and Bittersharp varieties including: Douces Dames, Capi, Belles FIlles, Petit & Gros Romeril, Gros France, Tetard, Cotard, Late Rouget, Museau d’Boeuf, Nier Binet, Gros Pigeonnet, Gras Binet. The Eating apples are the Sweet and Sharp types. Kids tend to prefer the Sweet (Douces Dames) but we also get demand for the old dual-purpose Sharps (apples like Nier Binet and Late Rouget). The older generations in particular remember eating these as children and prefer the tart flavour. We also have numerous unnamed varieties which are known by an identifying code number. Perhaps one day some of these will be renamed. All our trees are grafted onto semi-vigorous MM116 rootstock. This rootstock produces a medium sized tree which can be grown as a half-standard or bush tree. Planting advice freely given for single trees and whole orchards.
