If we could only recommend one summer drink, it would be plain water — every time.

Here's why water is the unsung hero of dental health:

- Rinses away food and sugar before they can fuel cavities
- Helps your mouth produce saliva, which neutralizes acid
- Fluoridated tap water actually helps strengthen enamel
- Zero acid, zero sugar, zero stains

Hot day hacks for the whole family:
- Keep a reusable bottle in the car, the beach bag, and the pool tote
- Swap one sugary drink a day for water — even just one helps
- Sip after iced coffee, lemonade or wine to wash away acid
- Add a slice of cucumber or mint for flavor, not lemon (too acidic on its own)

Simple, free, and your teeth love it.

Save this for your summer routine. Book your next cleaning at mydrdental.com.

Chipped a tooth on a popcorn kernel? Have a small gap that's bothered you for years?

Dental bonding might be the simplest fix you've never thought to ask about.

Here's how it works:
- Your dentist applies a tooth-colored resin to the area
- Shapes and smooths it to match your natural tooth
- Hardens it with a special light
- Polishes it for a seamless finish

It's usually done in a single visit, no drilling required for most cases, and it blends right in with your other teeth.

What bonding can help with:
- Small chips or cracks
- Gaps between front teeth
- Discoloration that won't lift with whitening
- Slightly uneven tooth edges

If something has been bugging you about your smile, ask us at your next visit whether bonding could be the answer.

National Smile Month is here — and the secret to a smile that lasts isn't fancy products. It's small habits, done consistently.

Swipe through for the 4 habits every family member (kids included) should make routine:

1. Brush twice a day, 2 minutes each time — not 30 seconds in a hurry
2. Floss once a day — yes, every day, even when you're tired
3. Replace your toothbrush every 3 months — or sooner if bristles fray
4. Schedule a cleaning every 6 months — your dentist catches what you can't see

Bonus habit on the last slide: hydrate with water all day.

Do these 4 things and you're already ahead of most adults.

As we approach mid-year, a quick check:

Have you had your dental checkup yet?

Most dental insurance covers two cleanings per year. If you haven't used your first one, now is the time.

Mid-year dental checklist:
- Cleaning #1 of 2: scheduled or done?
- Any tooth pain or sensitivity you've been ignoring?
- Kids due for a checkup before summer break?
- Toothbrush replaced in the last 3 months?

We accept Delta Dental, BlueCross BlueShield, MetLife, MassHealth, and Cigna.

Book at mydrdental.com or call 877-776-9833.

Memorial Day weekend is here — the unofficial start of summer.

Before you fire up the grill and hit the pool, a few quick smile tips:

At the BBQ:
- Corn on the cob is tough on dental work — cut it off the cob if you have crowns or braces
- Rinse with water after sugary marinades and sauces

At the pool:
- Frequent swimmers may notice enamel effects from chlorine over time — a quick water rinse after swimming helps
- Stay hydrated with water, not just sports drinks

On the road:
- Pack a travel toothbrush and toothpaste
- Sugar-free gum with xylitol is great for between-meal cleanings

Enjoy the long weekend. Your smile will thank you.

Happy Memorial Day from Dr. Dental.

Jaw pain? Clicking when you chew? Headaches you can't explain? It might be TMJ — and your dentist can help.

TMJ (temporomandibular joint disorder) affects the joint that connects your jaw to your skull. It's more common than you think, and a lot of people don't realize it's something a dentist can treat.

Common signs of TMJ:
- Jaw pain or tenderness, especially when chewing
- Clicking, popping, or grinding sounds when you open your mouth
- Headaches or earaches that keep coming back
- Difficulty opening your mouth wide
- Jaw locking in an open or closed position Talk to your dentist if you notice these signs — a quick evaluation can rule out or confirm TMJ. What causes it?
- Teeth grinding or clenching (often during sleep)
- Stress and tension in the jaw muscles
- Arthritis or injury to the jaw joint

How we can help:
- Custom night guards to reduce grinding
- Exercises and lifestyle changes
- A full evaluation to find the root cause Don't ignore jaw pain.

It rarely goes away on its own. Call 877-776-9833 or visit mydrdental.com

That iced coffee might taste amazing, but your enamel disagrees.

As summer heats up, these 5 popular drinks can quietly damage your teeth:

1. Sports drinks — sugar AND acid, worse for enamel than soda
2. Citrus juice — pH as low as 2-3, highly acidic
3. Iced coffee with sweetener — constant enamel exposure from sipping all day
4. Wine (red and white) — red stains, white erodes, both acidic
5. Sparkling water — better than soda, but still mildly acidic

The fix is simple:
- Rinse with plain water after acidic drinks
- Use a straw when possible
- Wait 30 minutes before brushing

Save this for your summer drink guide.
