“Apologize” started as a MySpace upload in 2006, before OneRepublic even had an album out. The version that took over the world came a year later, when Timbaland put his remix on Shock Value: he cut the guitar solo, layered in extra percussion, and turned Ryan Tedder’s piano ballad into a radio machine.

And a radio record, literally. The song pulled 10,394 plays in a single week on Mainstream Top 40, the biggest airplay week that chart had ever registered. It stayed in the Hot 100’s top ten for 25 straight weeks, the longest run since Santana’s “Smooth” in 1999, peaked at No. 2, went to No. 1 in sixteen countries and earned a Grammy nomination.

The airplay record didn’t survive the year. It was broken by Leona Lewis’s “Bleeding Love”, another song written by Ryan Tedder.

Pink Floyd’s 1989 concert in Venice became one of the most unforgettable and controversial live shows ever held. The band performed on a floating stage in front of Piazza San Marco, with around 200,000 people filling the city and millions more watching on television.
The free concert had no tickets or opening acts, but Venice was not prepared for such a huge crowd. There were not enough toilets, security, or cleaning services, and fans reportedly left behind around 300 tons of trash. Locals later called the event a “floating toilet.”
The backlash was so intense that the city council and mayor resigned. Venice later banned similar large concerts, and nothing like it has happened there since.

Released in 2001, “The Middle” became the song that introduced Jimmy Eat World to millions of listeners around the world. Its uplifting melody and timeless message turned it into one of the defining rock anthems of the early 2000s, but the inspiration behind the song came from a heartfelt email sent by a 13-year-old fan from Wales who was struggling to fit in with the other punk kids at school.
Frontman Jim Adkins was deeply moved by the fan’s message about feeling like an outsider. Wanting to reassure her that things would get better, he wrote back with words of encouragement, and that exchange inspired the opening lyrics of “The Middle.” The song quickly became a source of comfort for countless people facing self-doubt, loneliness, or the pressure to fit in.
More than two decades later, “The Middle” remains one of Jimmy Eat World’s most beloved songs. Its simple but powerful message about staying true to yourself continues to resonate with new generations, proving that sometimes a single letter can inspire a song that helps millions of people feel less alone.

Spotify has removed more than 75 million Al-generated and spam tracks over the past year as part of a major effort to fight streaming fraud and protect real artists.
The platform targeted fake streams, Al voice clones, duplicate uploads, impersonation, and other tactics used to manipulate the system.
Spotify has made it clear that this is not a ban on Al music.
Instead, it’s cracking down on low-quality, deceptive uploads while continuing to allow Al to be used as a creative tool when artists follow the platform’s rules. The company is also introducing stronger spam filters, tougher policies against Al impersonation, and new ways to identify music created with Al, giving listeners more transparency.
The move is designed to protect legitimate musicians, improve the listening experience, and ensure royalties go to genuine artists instead of spam accounts trying to game the system.

Released in 1993, “Whatzupwitu” was a collaboration between Eddie Murphy and Michael Jackson. The song appeared on Murphy’s third studio album, Love’s Alright, and was inspired by their real-life friendship. Jackson agreed to feature on the track because he liked its positive message about peace, love, and unity.
While the song didn’t become the chart hit Murphy had hoped for, the music video has become legendary for a completely different reason. Directed by Wayne Isham, it features colorful green-screen effects, floating clouds, over-the-top dancing, and surreal visuals that many fans now find unintentionally hilarious. Over the years, the video has gained a cult following online, with millions of people rediscovering it for its bizarre early-‘90s style rather than the song itself.
