One mistake on your term insurance application can create problems with every application after that.

If you're planning to buy term insurance, do these 5 things first:

✅Get your own health check-up done
✅If you've recently been sick or hospitalized, wait until your reports are back to normal
✅Ask for a cover amount that matches your income and family's needs
✅Be honest about smoking, drinking, and medical history
✅Improve your health profile before applying if needed

Not sure how much cover you need or whether you're ready to apply?

₹10,000/month in SSY = ₹55L for your daughter.
Tax-free. Government-backed.

But there are two factors that can affect this amount:

🟥 Number 1: If you’re investing monthly → the 5th is your deadline.
Interest is calculated on the lowest balance in the account between the 5th and month end, so ensure to make your monthly deposit before the 5th.
Miss it = zero interest for that month’s deposit

🟥Number 2: If you’re investing lump sum → the month matters.
Deposit ₹1.5L in April (start of FY) and it earns interest for all 12 months.
Wait till March? You lose nearly ₹5L over 15 years compared to an April deposit. And even within the month of April, deposit before the 5th to maximize interest gained.

🟥What about the tax benefits?
The 80C deduction on SSY contributions only applies under the old tax regime.
Under the new regime (the default), you get no deduction on deposits. At the 30% tax bracket under the old regime, that's ₹45,000 saved per year (₹6.75L over 15 years).

The interest and maturity are still tax-free under both regimes. But the deduction is only yours if you deliberately choose the old regime. Most people don't even know which regime they're on.

And even if you get both right → SSY alone is not enough.
Education inflation runs at 10-12% per year. An IIM MBA costs ₹27.5L today (projected to cross ₹1 Cr by 2040). SSY’s 8.2% doesn’t keep up.
‣ Add ₹5,000/month in a Nifty 50 index fund SIP.
‣ At 12% historical CAGR over 21 years: ~₹57L.
‣ SSY (₹55L) + SIP (₹57L) = over ₹1.1 Cr. Same discipline, very different outcome.

One of the biggest mistakes parents make?

👉 Comparing term insurance, ULIPs and endowment plans as if they're the same product.

They all carry the label of "life insurance." But the cover, cost, returns and purpose can be completely different.

One product could give your family ₹2 crore of protection.

Another could give them only a fraction of that.
