Banks have always loved Credit Card (CC) as a business. The reason for same is simple - Getting an interest rate of over 25% on each lending through CC.

Although the top 3 players in India constitute ~60% of the total market share of Credit Cards (HDFC Bank, SBI Card and ICICI Bank), however, when it comes to share of Credit Cards in total cards issued by these banks including Debit & Credit, it's only 6.5% which is way less compared to other nations.

Another key metric in credit cards is per card spent by a customer and as surprising it may sound, none of the private banks are leading the top 5 charts in the same. In fact, it's the Karur Vysya Bank(KVB), which leads per card spend in India having 2.17 times higher spend than industry average and more than 1.83 times of the market leader HDFC Bank.

A major reason for this can be that in terms of bigger players like HDFC or ICICI, a lot of cards become inactive resulting in 0 spends, but with PSUs, lesser number of cards issued, hence higher active card rates, so higher spends.

Here's an interesting infographic depicting top 5 banks having higher average per credit card spent and also the industry as a whole.

Let's have a look at some of the unusual things that stood out in Tokyo2020(yes! it is still Tokyo2020 and not Tokyo2021)!

Did you know that pandas don't do much for their ecosystem, and they take away a lot of resources from other endangered plants and animals that support multitudes?

Animals like ants, and some of the insects, have far more ecosystem value than do pandas, or elephants, or wolves, or all the charismatic animals!

But we are so adamant in saving pandas...and why shouldn't we? They are so damn adorable!

They are on our clothes, have their own movies, & heck, they are on our cereals as well!

As per 2014 WWF census, there are 1864 pandas in the world and they are no more endangered but are still vulnerable.

Chinese government who owns all these pandas tried to revive the species in 2006 and seems like it worked.

Wait, what?

Well, yeah... China owns pretty much all the giant pandas in the world.

Curious?

In 2016, the Oxford English Dictionary’s Word of the Year was “post-truth.” - Forbes

Post-truth is defined as “relating to or denoting circumstances in which objective facts are less influential in shaping public opinion than appeals to emotion and personal belief”.

In the current (social) media landscape, truth can be deliberately manipulated, and disinformation is a growing business.

Last week, when Ronaldo put aside the two Coca-Cola bottles placed in front of him at a press conference, a slew of news articles suggested that Ronaldo’s actions were responsible for wiping $4 billion off of Coca-Cola’s market value.

It is true that Ronaldo, in front of the press, declined to drink the strategically-placed Coca-Colas on offer. It is also true that, by the time the press conference was over, Coca-Cola’s value was down $4 billion.

However, there were other factors affecting the beverage giant’s stock price!

Find out in today's , how Ronaldo wasn't responsible for the falling Coca-cola share prices at all!

What can a cigarette company, a dairy products company and a baked products company have in common?

An year ago, answer might have been “nothing”; but today, there is one commonality – Atta (or flour). Yes, you heard that right!

Atta market - an INR 20,000 crore market is becoming the new feeding ground for decade old brands..

With Amul (GCMMF) entering into the atta market last year, Parle Products Pvt. Ltd announced its entry into the segment last week, which is dominated by national players like ITC Limited(Aashirvaad atta)!

What looks like an unlikely bet for a dairy producer and a biscuit baker is actually a well thought long term relationship.

Let's have a look at today (link on comments) why do we think so.

Most of us from our childhood have been fascinated about RBI having the powers to print currency notes.

At the same time, we have always questioned its power that why can’t they keep on printing notes to solve all our problems?

More money, more growth, and hence more happiness. Isn’t it?

Well, let us see what happened to some countries who did this:
Faced with reparations from the Allies and a broken economy, the Weimar government started to print more money this led to the rampant inflation of 1922 and 1923. Money in Germany became worthless – people had to get paid twice a day because money decreased in value by the hour!

People needed wheelbarrows to carry sufficient cash to pay for goods. There are apocryphal stories of people leaving the money, but stealing the wheelbarrows.

So, yes, inflation follows money printing. But why? or rather How?

Let's find out in today's (link in comments) on how it's a boon that RBI doesn't just print more money whenever it is needed!

Loans, moratoriums, NPAs had been common topics in the social circles since the advent of lockdown last year.

The central government had offered a moratorium on loan repayments to borrowers, including those who had taken education loans in the first half of 2020.

However, Out of the total education loans outstanding, 366,260 accounts worth ₹8,587 crore have turned bad, as per Union Govt.

Loans extended for engineering courses led the list of NPAs in the education sector with 176,256 accounts amounting to ₹4,041.68 crore turning bad as on 31 December 2020.

Some of the reasons this could have happened:
💵1. Financial crisis due to job loss or income loss
👩‍🎓2. Deferment of education due to unstable market, job sector and education sector
📚3. Education loans are Unsecured loans, therefore, easily pushed back on property list when it comes to survival

What do you could be other reasons for this?

Can you guess which states contributed to highest NPAs in the education loan space?
