Cigarette smoking causes cancer by exposing the body to a number of harmful chemicals, including tar, carbon monoxide, benzene, and others. These chemicals can damage cells in the body, including genetic material, and lead to the development of cancerous tumors.
Lung cancer is one of the most common types of cancer associated with smoking. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), to***co use is the single largest preventable cause of death worldwide, and it is estimated that to***co causes more than 8 million deaths per year, including 1.2 million deaths from exposure to second-hand smoke.
In India, it is estimated that about 1.2 million people die from cancer every year, and to***co use is a major contributor to this high death toll. According to the Indian Council of Medical Research, to***co use is responsible for about 30% of all cancer deaths in India.
In addition to lung cancer, to***co use can also cause cancer in other parts of the body, including the larynx (voice box), esophagus, throat, bladder, kidney, pancreas, and others. Chewing to***co has been linked to an increased risk of cancer of the mouth, throat, and pancreas.
It's important to note that the best way to reduce the risk of cancer associated with to***co use is to quit smoking or chewing to***co.
