Circularity is becoming an agri-food opportunity.

The Irish Circular Economy is opening up new possibilities for agriculture, from turning food and farm by-products into new ingredients and materials to recovering nutrients and finding higher value uses for what would otherwise be waste.

Why this matters for Ireland? Agriculture and food are at the heart of the Irish economy, giving us a significant base of biological resources and by-products to work with. With Ireland placing circularity, resource productivity and innovation at the centre of the 'Whole of Government Circular Economy Strategy 2026–2028' there is an opportunity to turn that scale into new businesses, new revenue streams and more value for the sector.

Circular agriculture isn’t just about reducing waste. It’s about getting more value from what we already produce to help to transition the country from a linear 'take–make–waste' model to a regenerative, closed-loop system.
