Month 7 of investing €100 per month in Ireland. Mistakes happen.

As usual, €100 left my account and transferred .

I had about €20 left from previous purchases also. However, by being distracted while purchasing, I didn’t purchase only full shares in WEBN and I ended up purchasing a fractional share also.

This isn’t a massive issue but I will need to factor this into my Deemed Disposal or exit tax calculation.

Money is invested. Not perfect. Just better.

Have you heard the terms Active and passive investing but didn’t really know what that meant. Let me try explain. Active investing is when somebody or a group of managers and analysts are trying to beat the market using all the available information. Trends, economic data, short term or long term timing. Passive investing is buying “the market” and accepting whatever returns the market generates. Which one do you prefer?

AD The industry is paid to sell. I’m paid to be honest.

Most financial advisers earn their money through product commissions. That’s not a criticism. It’s just the structure of the industry. But it does mean their incentive and your interest aren’t always pointing at the same thing.
That’s exactly why I set up ‘Paid to be Honest’ reviews.
You pay a flat fee for a single session. I take your actual numbers and give you a straight read on where things stand. No products. No follow-up pitch. Just an honest opinion. Whether you already have an adviser or you’ve been managing things yourself.

This is in addition to my actual job so
I can only open a small number of slots each month.

And if you’ve read this far, use code INTRO25% for a discount.

I hate the trope of “cut out coffee” and you’ll be better off. It’s such a cop out and is focusing on the wrong things. I love coffee and actually enjoy the time I spend getting a coffee (shout out to some local favorites like .coffee and ). You can make great coffee at home as well but coffee machines are not the money saver that some people will tell you. So buy yourself a coffee and spend that time trying to save yourself a few quid by changing providers or services you don’t use.

PSA to all parents. If you don’t have any life cover, you’re gambling with your children’s future. And that’s irresponsible. Take the 5 minutes that it takes to work out how much Life Insurance that your family might need and go and get some. Don’t wait.

Investing in 2026, during a fuel crisis, a housing crisis before that and a cost of living crisis. Things are expensive and they’re going to continue to be expensive. In my opinion, assets will also increase and if you want to participate in the rise in asset prices, you need to get better with your money.

Personal Investment update.

Trading 212: €797.56
€600 invested. €171.77 affiliate income.
50 units of WEBN so far.

Pension: €1,197.79
€1165 invested which is €665 personal and €500 employer. The net cost to me is €399.

I haven’t spoken about my original plan of a core and satellite investment strategy because I don’t want others to copy me or invest in what I’m investing in without advice (which I’m not giving!).

Plan is to buy more WEBN when the market opens next week.

Savings and Investment account Update. Minister Simon Harris has provided a small update on what’s planned. But don’t get your hopes up because he can’t design exactly how we all would like. Let’s see what the next update looks like.

My banks are a mess, because I have way too many of them.

I’ve managed to set up payments from credit cards and current accounts and Revolut not to mention multiple savings accounts and investment accounts.

To get a handle on my bills and subscriptions, I’m going to close some accounts and use the 3 bank method.

1 main current account with : https://join.monzo.com/c/s17p1027

Salary goes in here and all essential bills come out by direct debit. Any subscriptions are linked to the card.

Standing orders go to
Trading212: https://www.trading212.com/invite/4DrvZDIwIjJ

And to Bank 2 is my savings bank, Raisin: https://tr.ee/bsc2GyR-y9
Here I keep my emergency fund and medium term deposits (think House deposit).

I’ll also be sure to transfer a set amount to my guilt free fund money account with Revolut. This is for my coffee, pints, golf, life size Ironman suit, whatever I want.

TLDR Investment Risk.
Does more risk = more return. Put simply, no.

If higher risk investments were a reliable factor to determine return, they wouldn’t be risky.

But over time, the wider expected outcomes of higher risk investments, like equities decreases their risk volatility.

People often put themselves at risk levels which might suit their feelings but doesn’t actually fit their life.

Make sure you’ve considered your long term attitude to investment risk, and not just your current feelings.
