1958
Initially, the Bank was set up in Bandung, West Java, under the name Bank Pegawai Pensiunan Militer (Bapemil), and served retired military personnel.

1960
Obtained license to become a commercial bank.

1986
Changed its name into Bank Tabungan Pensiunan Nasional.

2008
TPG Nusantara S.a.r.l., a subsidiary of US global private equity, TPG Capital, acquired a majority stake (71.6%) in BTPN thro

ugh a public listing in the Indonesian Stock Exchange. BTPN became a publicly listed company and was a IDR 13.7 trillion bank in assets

2009
BTPN launched its micro - small business Mitra Usaha Rakyat by rolling out 539 branches and growing the unit’s loans to IDR 2.3 trillion in one year. The bank issued its first Rupiah long term bond, which carried an A+ national scale rating from Fitch Ratings, and received a long-term Rupiah facility from International Finance Corporation, a subsidiary of The World Bank.

2010
BTPN increased its assets to IDR 34.5 trillion, compared to IDR 13.7 trillion two years ago. The Bank’s asset growth was funded in part by two long-term bonds issues totaling IDR 2.4 trillion and and a IDR 1.3 trillion right issue, increased its Capital Adequacy Ratio to 23.4%.The Bank ranked 10th among Indonesian banks according to market capitalization, ranked 5th in branch network and ranked 6th in the number of employees.

2011
BTPN launched its Daya program as an integral part of its business as a sustainable and measurable mass market enablement program that empowers the mass market. BTPN successfully piloted its Sharia’s Community Banking Business (BTPN Syariah – Tunas Usaha Rakyat). The Funding Business launched its Sinaya brand, which links up with the Bank’s Daya initiative. BTPN expanded its ATM network with ATM Prima network, in addition to its existing ATM Bersama network. This brings its ATM linked network to more than 57,331 ATMs troughout Indonesia.

Melihat Diri Sendiri

Sebelum memasuki sebuah barbershop, seorang pria memberi nasihat kepada anaknya, "Untuk mendapatkan hasil cukur yang baik tidak usah takut memilih tukang cukur yang model rambutnya buruk. Karena kita tahu itu bukan hasil cukurannya sendiri."

Ya, tepat sekali. Seorang tukang cukur yang ahli sekalipun tak dapat memangkas rambutnya sendiri dengan bagus.

Demikian juga seorang dokter tak dapat mengoperasi dirinya sendiri.

Meskipun memang ada seorang dokter gigi yang mencoba memecahkan rekor dengan menambal giginya sendiri, tapi kita pasti yakin hasilnya tak sebagus hasil karyanya di gigi pasiennya. Ini memberikan kita gambaran bahwa setiap orang, sehebat apa pun, membutuhkan orang lain dalam hidup ini.

Ralph Waldo Emerson pernah menulis, "Mata bisa melihat segala hal kecuali dirinya sendiri." Kita membutuhkan orang lain untuk memperbaiki sikap kita yang salah. Kita memerlukan nasihat orang tua, teguran sahabat, kritik dari atasan, saran dari pasangan dan nasihat yang baik dari siapa saja.

Memang pada saat mendengar tindakan kita dikritik atau ditegur, rasanya tidak nyaman. Lebih enak dan menyenangkan bila kita selalu dipuji dan didukung.

Akan tetapi orang yang dapat menerima teguran dan nasihat dari orang lain sebenarnya sedang menolong dirinya sendiri agar terhindar dari hal-hal buruk.
Sebaliknya, sungguh kasihan orang yang menganggap pendapatnya sendiri paling benar. Ia tak berkesempatan memperbaiki hidupnya dan mendapatkan yang lebih baik dari pendapatnya sendiri.

Berbahagialah Anda, berterima kasihlah kepada orang yang selama ini rajin mengkritik Anda. Lihatlah orang tersebut bukan sebagai musuh, justru anggaplah dia sebagai sahabat.

Sebaliknya hati2lah terhadap orang yang selalu me-muji2 Anda, sebab belum tentu dia melakukannya dengan tulus.

JOURNEY
The crafting of BTPN's mission, vision and values began in 2009, and encompassed input and participation from employees at all levels in the bank. The goal was to build a sustainable business which contributes to the well-being of fellow Indonesians and thereby to the development of the nation.

The exercise which began in January 2009 resulted in a consensus draft by March 2009. Through a series of workshops facilitated by Directors and Senior Management, the mission and values was tabled for discussion amongst more than its 3,000 employees. Although the final statement was confirmed in January 2010- over year later, the bank believes that the journey in establishing its mission and values is the "destination".
