🔎 𝐀 𝐜𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐧𝐥𝐲 𝐝𝐨𝐞𝐬 𝐢𝐭𝐬 𝐣𝐨𝐛 𝐢𝐟 𝐢𝐭 𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐬 𝐥𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐛𝐥𝐞.

One of the most common questions we receive concerns the durability of printed cable markings. At Senekis, we answer it with a practical test.

Following the verification method described in IEC 61439-1, the marking is rubbed for 15 seconds with water and then for another 15 seconds with hexane.

To pass the test, the print must show no significant deterioration, while the information displayed must remain clear and easily legible.

From 11 September 2026, the reporting obligations under Article 14 of the EU Cyber Resilience Act begin to apply.

Manufacturers whose products with digital elements fall within the Regulation’s scope must report actively exploited vulnerabilities and severe incidents affecting product security, with an early warning within 24 hours and a full notification within 72 hours.

For industrial automation, this regulatory milestone highlights a broader engineering priority: cybersecurity should be considered from the design stage, not added after a system is complete.

Across PLC, HMI and SCADA environments, secure architectures, controlled access, network segmentation, update management and lifecycle support all contribute to stronger operational resilience.

While technologies have evolved, internal separation remains essential for safety, accessibility and controlled maintenance.

In simplified terms, the progression is:
🔹 𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐦 𝟏: No internal separation.
🔹 𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐦 𝟐: Busbars are separated from functional units.
🔹 𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐦 𝟑: Functional units are also separated from one another.
🔹 𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐦 𝟒𝐛: Busbars, functional units and external terminals are separated, with the terminals located outside the compartment of their associated functional unit.

This structured compartmentalisation supports safer access, limits contact with adjacent live parts and makes inspection and maintenance more controlled.
