Very few people are born smart. Genes play a role in being intelligent, but there are people who, out of consistency and sheer commitment, have become extraordinary in anything and in several fields. Consistency and commitment will play a great role in your doing well in life.
There is the 10,000-hour rule in Malcolm Gladwell's book "Outliers" that suggests if you can commit 10,000 hours consistently to doing a thing with a set objective, you can attain excellence. With minimal or average intelligence and abilities, consistently committing time up to 10,000 hours in order to achieve a level of excellence will definitely produce excellence.
Many things don't work at the first instance.
Thomas Edison reportedly tried 1,000 times to invent the electric bulb, and he failed 1,000 times before he got it. He said he learned 1,000 times what does not work and how to do it better. Consistency and commitment will eventually be rewarded with success over time.
Have you ever wondered why Coca-Cola still advertises? Consistency and commitment to excellence.
