On Tuesday 13th October 2020, I represented CATIPs-Ghana with the Executive Board of the Cape Coast Chamber of Commerce and Industry and held bilateral trade and investment meeting with the Indian High Commissioner to Ghana, HE SUGANDH RAJARAM in Cape Coast on number of pressing issues including agriculture, tourism, mining and trade facilitation for businesses in Central region in particular.

The average business in Ghana will call out finance or credit as its major challenge.
In giving my technical perfective on trade finance in facilitating trade, I outlined that after identifying financing SMEs as a problem, the fact is that businesses are only focused on securing finances through the traditional means such as loans, overdrafts and government's credits, which are not reliable and sustainable in terms of cost, efficiency and access. I advanced the case for other reliable and sustainable means such as forfaiting, factoring, crowd financing etc which have proven more convenient for SMEs financing in many jurisdictons including few African countries like SA, Egypt, Tunisia and Morrocco. What is needed for these time tested financial interventions is the legal environment which is absent in Ghana. The larger picture is to invest into research towards promulgating the appropriate laws to regulate them. Businesses will stand to gain more than it's currently the case.
