BREAKING: The Dangote Petroleum Refinery IPO has been extended by two weeks.

The Securities and Exchange Commission approved moving the close from Tuesday, October 13 to October 27 so more investors across Africa can finish account opening and identity verification — and so depositary receipt access can expand to other African markets. The offer is 4.1 billion ordinary shares at ₦525 each.

New timetable: collation of returns November 3, final allotment November 17. The upside pitch is dollar-equivalent exposure to massive refinery capacity — but I also walk through what to watch: cross-border settlement, identity verification and post-listing liquidity across regional exchanges. Read the offer timetable and prospectus before you participate.

BREAKING: The Bank of Ghana has backed a direct Cedi-to-Yuan trade settlement route — letting Ghanaian importers pay Chinese suppliers straight in Yuan through China’s CIPS network, no US dollar leg required. Stanbic Bank is the first bank live with direct access (GCB Bank is still developing its own version).

Over 20% of Ghana’s imports come from China, so cutting the double FX conversion really matters. I walk through the bull case (less FX volatility, better margins for listed manufacturing and retail firms on the GSE) and the bear case (this won’t replace the dollar overnight — oil and gold are still USD-priced) — plus what it means if you’re hedging against the dollar or importing goods yourself.

Dangote Refinery just extended its IPO application period to October 27 — it was due to close October 13.

The company cites strong interest across Africa and wants more time for cross-border access, account opening and identity checks. At ₦525 a share for 4.1 billion shares, the SEC no-objection (the Allotment Date) is slated for November 17, with CSCS credits and trading 15 business days after that. The notice says the dates are indicative and may change without notice.

You can transfer your shares from one broker to another — it just takes a CSD account on both ends and a Securities Transfer Form (CSD Form 5), with the security name, ticker and share count.

Gifting shares to family may need ID confirmation, and gift transfers can be taxed in Ghana.

Comment “transfer” for the form link.

Bank of Ghana’s Monetary Policy Committee held its policy rate at 14% — a unanimous decision, and the third straight hold this year.

That signals a stable outlook for Ghana’s economy in the weeks ahead. For investors, it means fixed income and money market rates should stay roughly where they are for now.

Comment “MPC” for updates on the next decision.
