Most insurance policies have a single item limit - this is the maximum you can claim on your contents insurance for any one item that’s damaged or stolen.

So, if your single item limit is £1,000 for example and you buy an engagement ring worth more than that, you won’t have adequate cover if it’s damaged or stolen.

Check with your insurer as soon as you purchase any high value items to check if they are fully covered.
