The PPI deadline may well be in place now but the scandal is far from over.

Here at Claim Hunters we speak to thousands of people each month about their historic and/or existing claims.

Sometimes, we speak to people who insist PPI is not an actual thing! 100% sure that they haven't been mis-sold anything. Claiming, in fact, that we are the scam and the banks haven't done anything wrong.

Why then would the banks STILL be putting huge amounts of money aside for PPI?............Simple answer is - this is YOUR MONEY they are putting aside.

Nevertheless, the bank reports pre-tax profits of £2.5bn in the first six months of 2017 - up 4% on the same period last year.

Now we have a definite PPI claim deadline in place, banks will start setting money aside in preparation.

They already know how much they will potentially be handing back over this period so they can prepare well.

Lloyds have already set aside a further £350million.

Yet so many people insist that they couldn't possibly have been paying PPI. Most people who see a refund didn’t know they had been paying it over the years.

If a friend or family member hasn’t yet checked, give them a nudge.

If some of that £350million has their name on it, they'll only get it back if they put in a claim!

This months favourite payout!

Whilst this wasn't the biggest payout, it was certainly the most well received.

Elizabeth from Caerphilly, who found us on Facebook back in August 2016, had a lot of credit lines in her name - mostly credit cards. She told us that more often than not she kept up to date with her payments, but was keen on checking her PPI because other people she knew had received refunds.

We took her cases on and made enquiries on her behalf.

One of her cases - Halifax CC - ended up being escalated to the Financial Ombudsman Service because we were not satisfied with their response of 'agreed PPI'. It turned out that Elizabeth had indeed signed and ticked the box for it knowing full well what it was, so this was closed down.

Most of her other cases were also closed down with no PPI found. These included Tesco, Mint and MBNA.

2 lenders showed up with PPI policies in place which we questioned. Lloyds and Santander. In total there were 5 different accounts with them all containing PPI - how much, we didn't know.

After a few weeks of discussion with them the final refund amounts were agreed and Elizabeth received 2 cheques.

1 was from Santander for just under £2000. The 2nd was from Lloyds for a combined amount of just over £19,500.

Again, whilst this wasn't the biggest payout we've achieved for the month, it was the best because Elizabeth wouldn't have bothered checking had it not been for a few people around her getting refunds. She had no knowledge of these payments. She certainly had no previous intention of claiming. It was a momentary decision to find a company to do it for her.

Spring has certainly started well for Elizabeth and we were pleased to do business with her and get her a good result.

It's time to announce our Payout of the Month.

In January we completed a fantastic claim for Mrs Leitch in Falkirk.

Approaching us in July last year with a list of 8 lenders to claim against, Mrs Leitch had clearly had significant financial dealings in the past.

In September Mrs Leitch asked us for an update on her claims. There wasn't really much to tell her. The claims had been submitted and we were just waiting on responses. Mrs Leitch wasn't too happy with this. She thought that the process was a lot quicker. We told her it could take a further 6 months or so from that point. She was hoping for a result, (and money), before xmas.

There was a slight hold-up along the way because Mrs Leitch had married, so her claims were being put through in her maiden name but we knew that the claims were being dealt with properly by the lenders.

In November, we received our first response - from Northern Rock - advising there was no PPI. This was quickly followed up by the same response from Halifax.

In January, we phoned Mrs Leitch, (we unfortunately interrupted her at work), to tell her that we have found PPI with Black Horse and Barclays and refunds were being issued from both.

Mrs Leitch asked us how much she was in line for. We were pleased to tell her that the combined refund was around £49,200!
No, this isn't a typing error - Forty nine thousand, two hundred pounds.........

Unfortunately, we missed Christmas. But we are sure Mrs Leitch will have a very happy January!

Have you had credit cards? Loans? Mortgages? Do you have friends or family that have? Don't ignore the fact that there is potentially a lot of money out there for you. Start your claim today and get yours back!

Hundreds of thousands of people in the UK are yet to claim back their PPI. The majority of those haven't even considered looking into theirs.

If you are one of those people, what is your reason for not bothering?
