A day of dismantling back in the summer of 2007!

Basically going through all the sneakers I’d obtained, either old ones I’d warn out, samples I’d been given or odd and rejects that friends would pass on to me. Stripping them of all the parts to archive and facilitate me in future customs.

This was a part of a small run of samples I designed for

This based on my life long love for stationary. I remember always looking forward to the W.H Smiths run just before the begging a new school term, replenishing my stationary stock to a ridiculous level. Always drawn to the branding and always having to have their iconic eraser. Still to this day I’m like a kid in a candy store when in an art supplies store. 😏🤤

Air Jordan Moc 4’s ‘Mochas’

Made these back in 2005. For some reason these are the only pics I have of them 🤷🏻‍♂️

For these I used a Jordan basket ball vest label to add the branding on the tongues and started to experimenting with paints as I hadn’t really been using paint as a medium before that, only really altering my customs with hand stitched applications.

Still had a lot to learn with technique and finish (particularly with my moccasin cross stitch & obviously product photos). Doubt I’d be happy with these if I made them today. It is what it is and was what it was, and I suppose back then was something new and different.

Hollyhock NEW ERA 59fifty

This is a one off sample that I designed for (UK). It’s based on the hollyhock crest from the clan. But the true inspiration came from a character called Ogami Itto who was the main character in the Japanese 1970’s epic saga ‘lone wolf and cub’ written by Kazuo Koike & Goseki Kojima. Both the movie and graphic novel are brilliant. You may know the movie better as ‘shogun assassin’ where the first 2 Japanese movies were edited in to one and dubbed for the western audience and was also heavily sampled in GZA’s liquid swords.

DELTA DAPPER DONS

Made these back in late 2004.
I wanted to play around more with the idea of mixing sneakers and normal shoes. Instead of doing the moccasin stitch on a traditional looking sneaker I thought I’d do it on one that had more of a traditional shoe colour way and look. Still being a sneaker with a moccasin stitch but now looking more like a traditional moccasin than a sneaker. This is also when I started using parts from other sneakers which you can see here, using the straps from the Bison Nike vandals. (Me at 26 in last pic, could my chinos have been any baggier?! 🤦🏻‍♂️. Rocking a tee tho ✌🏼)

Nike Air Force Moc 1 ‘Lucky Charms’

These were the very first custom I perfected back in 2003. Entirely stitched by hand and themed on the red and green of Chinese jade charms. The mesh on suede was inspired by the Nike sb zoom air Angus, just exaggerating it a little more, then adding that moccasin cross stitch I love so much.
