🫟 Graffiti around the village 🫟

We have noticed a small increase in graffiti around the village, especially at hotspots such as the railway bridge and the children’s playing park.

We are especially saddened by the frequent issues at the park, as previous pieces have exposed young children to inappropriate language or imagery.

Please report any sightings to us or Braintree District Council and we will do our best to have them removed, and if you see someone who is responsible we encourage you (where safe to do so) to report them to the police.

If you have any information, such as the location of graffiti, please email our clerk ([email protected]) or message us directly on Facebook with a picture of the graffiti and its location in the village.

Thank you for your cooperation.

🧑‍🎨 Museum logo design competition 🧑‍🎨

Feering and Kelvedon local history museum is hosting a competition for children to design a new logo!

Any child who lives in either of the villages, or attends one of our schools is welcome to enter.

Entries are divided into three age brackets, those being 0-8, 9-11 and 11-18. The best design in each respective bracket will win £15, and the creator of the overall winning design will take home £25 in gift vouchers.

The winning entry will be fashioned into a full working logo by the Kelvedon based W3 Design Company and displayed on the museums website and documents.

For inspiration, we recommend visiting the museum and looking at their exhibits, which is currently open from 2pm until 5pm on Mondays and 9:30am until 12:30pm on Saturdays. Located at Aylett’s Building, Maldon Rd, Kelvedon, Essex (CO5 9BA) accessed via the library.

The closing date for submissions is the 1st October. Entries must be handed in to the museum alongside the child’s name, and the name and contact details of the child’s parent or guardian.

On behalf of Kelvedon Parish Council, good luck to any children who enter!

🔥 Help to stay safe from wildfires 🔥

With the news of a temporary ban on sales of single use BBQ’s, we figured it was a good time to remind everyone to keep doing their part to prevent wildfires.

Our village now has many large patches of dry grass, and irresponsibility with fires in these conditions can lead to devastating consequences, including the loss of lives and livelihoods.

Disposable BBQs, cigarette ends and improper disposal of batteries all have the potential to escalate into wildfires.

You are also encouraged to be vigilant in reporting potential risks to the relevant bodies.

Call 999 to report active fires, and FireStoppers at 0800 169 5558 to report situations that could escalate into a fire.

❤️ CPR training in the village ❤️

Kelvedon Community Association are running a free CPR course in the small hall behind the institute.

Being able to safely and correctly apply emergency help to someone during a health crisis is a hugely important skill to have, and may well save lives.

The course runs from 11:00AM until 4:30PM on Saturday 5th of September, and is open to everyone. While the course is free, donations are welcome and go toward supporting EEAST community first responders.

We are enormously grateful for the hard work of the KCA, as well as that of the EEAST first responders. Community efforts such as these are part of what makes our village such a special and safe place to live.

📚 Back to school preparations!📚

As we now sit around the halfway point of the summer holidays, we figured it was a good time to share some back to school preparations.

First up, a free school uniform event is taking place in Braintree town for families who are looking to be sustainable or those who are struggling with the cost of living.

Taking place on Friday the 14th August at the carousel family hub in Braintree (CM7 3QZ), families are able to pick up pre-loved school uniform free of charge, for ages 4-16.

There will also be arts and crafts stands and refreshments to keep little ones busy while you look for what you need.

Secondly, for parents of those making the jump to secondary school, make sure you are familiar with the available bus routes to Thurstable and Stanway schools.

The 823 bus begins its route at 8 AM, and will stop at all bus stops on the high street. This bus goes to Thurstable.

The 903 bus stops opposite the Railway Tavern and takes you to Stanway high school.

We at Kelvedon Parish Council hope everyone is enjoying their summer holidays, and wish all the children the best on their back to (or starting) school experience.

🏡 An update on the Local Plan 🏡

First of all, we would like to thank everyone who submitted their thoughts regarding the proposed developments.

Regulation 18 received upwards of 2,700 comments, and every one of those contributes to the ongoing discussion and the future of the project.

Our statement can be found below:

Last weeks (July 30th) meeting of Braintree District Council’s local plan subcommittee has gone over all submitted statements, and are expecting to prepare Regulation 19 this Autumn for further public comment.
