Chichester and District Canine Society

Chichester and District Canine Society Ringcraft is the training of both handler and dog ready for the show ring. Our teams include both men and women.

On Monday evenings (excluding the last Monday in the month which is our monthly Match meeting) we hold ringcraft training sessions at The Selsey Centre, commencing at 730 pm. The training aims to replicate what you should expect if you decide to enter a dog show in an informal manner. In particular, training will involve the handler presenting their dog ready for the trainer to check his/her confo

rmation and then moving the dog, just as you would at a show. Ringcraft is the best way to simulate show experience and will help both handler and dog to gain confidence and skill. Ringcraft sessions are also a most useful way of socialising puppies with other well mannered dogs. An important part of the training is for your dog to feel at ease with people going over it who are likely to be complete strangers to the dog. This is important for all dogs, whether intending to show or not, as it is good preparation for that Judge's assessment or equally for a veterinary inspection. To help with this aspect of training, you will find that we have a number of ringcraft training teams, thus increasing your dog's exposure to those new people. So it will not be the same person examining your dog each session, week in and week out. You are welcome to come and join us free of charge as our guest for your first week.

My thanks to the very attentive Officers and Committee for the invitation to judge the Terrier Group at this extremely well organised and thoroughly enjoyable show, with many very lovely exhibits to enjoy. 2 Arunmere Worth The Wait
Still immature in head at this stage, needing to develop, but a pretty mover who covers the ground well. Spannable, with well-laid shoulders, racy quarters and good overall balance. Carries a thick, weather-resistant pelt and is well b***d. A promising youngster.

1 Hugh’s Arunmere Rhapsody in Red JW A typical, workmanlike exhibit with small, neat ears, a moderate broad skull and strong muzzle. The moderate neck flowing into well-balanced proportions. 2 Affleck’s Otterock Trick Or Treat
16-month-old dog of pleasing size and good bone. Particularly good for ears, the best of the day, on a flat skull with a typical otter head. A little naughty on the table, but showing character. Rather wide in front, though he moved out well. Strong through the loin with a good set-on.
3 Onzienehurst Mrs Pankhurst

PG (4/0)

Spannable, racy, balanced 2-year-old male of correct bone. Good otter head Shows a good ratio of height to length. 2 Wingrave Onthill Living The Dream
Heavier in type than 1. Pleasing head with neat ears and a good set-on. Dipped behind the shoulders, which caused him to lose his topline on the move. Rather full in rib.

3 Mills’ Lairdship Larger Than Life
OPEN (3/0)
1 Mills’ Lairdship Licketty Split BOB TG1
What a character! This show girl’s tail didn’t stop wagging throughout as she was clearly enjoying her day. Both the handler and myself fully expected her to be really naughty but, like a true diva, she put on such a commanding performance especially in the Group, where she was rewarded with top honours today. Up to size, quality domed head and strong fore-face. She’s balanced throughout, lovely weaselled body and corresponding topline pleasing coat pencilling completed her appeal. BOB TG1
2 Bainbridge’s Ceilsmear’s White Star Beauty
Feminine bitch carrying too much weight today which affected her overall condition and outline. Correctly constructed topline was retained on the move, and she moved out well. Rather gay tail carriage.

3 Kenyons’ Ceilmear Close Encounter
JACK RUSSELL TERRIER
JUNIOR (1/0)
1 Gray’s Laserna Valentino
Balanced, spannable dog of pleasing size and personality. Smartly presented with a flat skull, although his ears were rather large. Pleasing neck and shoulder placement, neat front and good depth of brisket. Unfortunately he dropped away and long in croup and was over-arched over the loin, causing him to roach his topline on the move. Would also prefer more bend of stifle.
NORFOLK TERRIER
PGD(3/2)
1 Finch & Bonner Belleville High Society For Dalticino BOB
Balanced, well-proportioned happy dog with a correct head, enhanced by small neat ears with good set and carriage. Strong scissor bite. Excellent spring of rib and strong loin leading into a good set-on and well-carried tail. Moved out with drive, completing the picture.

STAFFORDSHIRE BULL TERRIER
PUPPY (5/1) This was, for me, the strongest class of the day with a super line up of puppies. All decisions were very close, often splitting hairs. However after awarding my class winner BP, BOB, PTG, I was absolutely delighted to see her go on to take BPIS. Congratulations
1 Stillmans’ Vadeliza Devils Got Me At Maidendale
Balanced, feminine, bitch in pristine condition, with “fit for function” written all through her. She ticked every box for me. Lovely balanced head with clean cheeks, strong muzzle and super rose ears. Well sprung ribs and muscled throughout, presented glowing in health with a fit, well developed conditioned for her age. Moved so well with a quiet “don’t even think about it” no-nonsense air about her. Worked beautifully with her handler throughout. A thoroughly deserving BP BOB TPG1 RBPIS.
2 MacCaffertys’ Wonderstaff This Boy
Ultra masculine dog displaying great strength of head, evident in his strong cheeks and powerful muzzle. Strong muscular neck, standing four-square with width of chest in keeping with his deep brisket and full rib. Already fully up to size, I would not want him to grow on, but on the day he was rewarded for his type, condition and clear “fit for function” qualities. Was pressed hard by the two pretty girls behind him. A close decision.

1 Warehams’ Maynestaff Morning Glow RBOB
4-year-old bitch of correct size with pleasing head proportions, good ear set and clean cheeks. Would prefer more open nostrils. Presented in hard muscular condition and clearly fit for function. Moved well.
2 Blagg & Whitehead Keep It Lowkee At Pindbystaf
Very masculine head with super cheeks, good eye and strong muzzle. Strong, well-muscled short neck leading into a fit, strong body. Rather sleepy in expression and attitude today
3 Turner’s Matrixstaff Moon Dancer At Tidestaff
OPEN(3/1)
1 Turner’s On The Hill Two At Tidestaff
Outgoing bitch, fit for purpose and full of character. She scored in skull, correct head proportions, ear set and carriage, and possessed a strong neck flowing into well-developed chest and forequarters. Moved out well.
2 Mitchell’s Chedanstaff Devil Star ShCEx
Masculine dog presented in excellent condition. Strong, flat skull with correct eye and expression. Wide front and well muscled throughout. Good spring of rib, strong through the loin, and finished with a very good tail set. There was much to like about this dog; however, I would prefer a lower set hock to improve drive on the move.
