Ardailly Ecoroundhouses Our roundhouse self build project is a super insulated SIP (structural insulated panel) passive sola It doesn't need any large cranes to put the bits together.

We have been planning and building ourselves an eco-roundhouse since 2006/7. We planned to finish in 2012 but everything that could have gone wrong did - especially the builder who 'went bust' December 2010 just as he was supposed to be delivering and erecting our house kit ... which we had paid for... so taking our money with him... We are using structural insulated panels (SIPS) to give ourselve

s a superinsulated and well sealed shell. The engineering is pioneering as there are no internal structural walls, the roof is self supporting. Our turf roofs are also pioneering as they are at 26 degrees and use an entirely new way of combining waterproof membranes, mulch mats and geocoir webs to integrate the turfs.

Our batteries are in. Will cover us for winter powercuts - even over several days. Only needs a bit of extra switchgear...

Have not been able to check out whether we're getting a benefit on our billing yet.
We do have a FIT, as well as our export payment but we pay 2.5x more than we receive because leccy prices are stupidly fixed to the global gas price.
