Ellen Collier Family History

Ellen Collier Family History I am a professional genealogist with a love of researching and retelling family histories. Let me bring your family's past to life. I can help access that.

If you would like to know more about your family history, I can help. I can trace a whole family line and present it as a report, or I can look at one part of a family tree and help take it back another generation. You can buy a family history as a gift. You'll receive a beautifully written report on a Victorian family, presented in a smart binder. These make wonderful unique gifts for special bir

thdays, anniversaries or for Christmas. Or I can help you learn about an earlier branch of your family, or find out more about one particular ancestor. I am a history graduate and have been running my genealogy business for over six years. I feel passionately that tracing a family is about more than just names and dates. There’s a whole wealth of information to be gleaned about the people of the past, their communities and their working lives. I take on any projects, large or small, from the first stages of tracing ancestors, to helping experienced researchers overcome difficulties in their research.

This is a fascinating story, which shows how chance events and perseverance can pay off when it comes to family history research. I am also currently researching a Guyanese family, possibly with Scottish roots, so I understand the obstacles he faced when trying to find out more. Now, if I could just find someone selling a bundle of letters relating to the family....

I'm now booked in to visit the new Cambridgeshire Archives on 18 December. With free parking just outside, although it's twice as far from home as the old Archives in central Cambridge, it should be quicker (and cheaper) door-to-door.

I'm working on other people's family histories today, but remembering my own lovely Grandad, who was born 100 years ago today. I've also been listening to the interviews I did with him back in 2005 and feeling glad I took the time to do them. It's nice to hear his old London accent again!

The first two minutes of my interview with my Grandad about his early years.

In Birmingham today for the study day. Central Birmingham's changed a bit since I graduated 20 years ago!
