🧠 No Will in place? Then the law decides.

Many people assume their partner or family will automatically deal with everything when they die.
That is not always the case.

⚠️ Without a Will

If you die without a Will, intestacy rules apply. This can mean:

❌ Your spouse or civil partner may not receive everything
❌ Unmarried partners are not automatically entitled to inherit
❌ Children may inherit at 18, whether ready or not
❌ People you trust may have no legal authority
❌ Delays, extra costs and family disputes

Your wishes are not taken into account. The law decides.

💷 What about tax?

Inheritance Tax is based on the value of your estate and who inherits.
A Will does not remove tax by itself, but without one you lose control and planning opportunities, which can lead to inefficiency and added cost.

✅ What having a Will does

A properly written Will allows you to:

✔ Decide who inherits and when
✔ Choose who deals with your affairs
✔ Protect children and vulnerable beneficiaries
✔ Reduce uncertainty and stress for your family

📅 New year, new review

The Law Society recommends reviewing a Will every five years, or sooner if circumstances change.
If you already have a Will, it may need updating.
If you do not, now is a sensible time to put one in place.
