About 2,000 years ago, during a time of bloody conflict in Ancient Rome, someone buried a hoard of silver coins in an Italian forest, intending to come back for it. But something prevented them from returning, and for centuries, the treasure sat forgotten — until now. In 2021, an archaeologist hiking through the woods near Livorno happened upon the treasure trove buried inside a terracotta pot. The 175 denarii would have been equal to about a year and a half of a Roman soldier's salary, and researchers think the coins may have been buried by a soldier around the time Roman general Lucius Cornelius Sulla attacked the Roman Republic in 82 B.C.E. However, experts believe that the soldier was killed in battle before he could retrieve his treasure. Learn more about this fascinating find: https://bit.ly/3Pvd5Sa
