Pakistan Brick Kiln School

Pakistan Brick Kiln School This is the page of UK trade union activists and supporters of the APFUTU. Its purpose is to seek to raise awareness, solidarity and financial support.

The work of APFUTU includes investigation into conditions in the brick kilns, and lobbying local politicians. In Pakistan, the literacy rate is 55%, creating a cycle of poverty, unemployment and exploitation. 200,000 Pakistanis, and up to 1.8 million workers (many of them children as young as six) work in brick kilns, where loans of £32 are repaid by working for £2.24 a day - the going rate for a

15-hour shift. The workers’ illiteracy ensures that they cannot calculate their debt and are at the mercy of the kiln owners.
