The development of tennis club culture does not just happen by accident.

Each day, it is impacted by the decisions leaders make, by the standards they establish, and by their behaviour as it affects others.

This is what I will be sharing with you during my next webinar:

🎾 The Leadership Divide: Building or Breaking Your Tennis Culture

Over many years, I have seen talented coaches and quality programmes underperform not because of lack of tennis expertise but because of ineffective leadership behind the scenes.

This presentation will focus on subtle yet important actions that develop an overall culture that is cohesive and high-performing, as well as addressing behaviours that can cause the demise of teams, programmes, or club cultures.

If you are a coach, programme leader, or club director/interested in building something that is positive and sustainable, I would like you to join me.

Less than Four Days Remaining Until…

All of the important moments where we demonstrate our leadership aren’t just moments at the end of an ‘event’ or an ‘arrangement'.

They occur every day through the conversations we're having with one another, the expectations we create, and the environments we set.

These are the topics I'm going to cover during "The Leadership Divide – Building or Breaking Your Tennis Culture" webinar.

As part of this webinar, I'm going to share some practical strategies you can use to do the following:
✔ Build a stronger coaching culture
✔ Enhance your team's sense of accountability
✔ Lead with more clarity and purpose
✔ Foster an environment where coaches & players excel

The key to whether a program grows or is stagnant relies largely on its leadership.

More Of Something Does Not Mean Better!

As many athletes believe, training harder, longer, or without any breaks gives the best results in sport; however, too much effort can impede performance when you begin to lose sight of what it means to be well within yourself.

Dr. Callum included in his recent conversation with me is how many people overlook the relationship between mental fatigue and over-training. When a person does not allow their body time to recover, their ability to concentrate decreases, their ability to make sound decisions drops, they become less motivated and performance levels will systematically plateau – even if someone is working harder than they ever have!

Although they train very hard, the most superior athletes know when they have trained hard enough and therefore when to properly recover. In addition to being diligent about how they use their energy, the most elite athletes understand that taking time away from the sport is critical to achieving progress.

#1: Train With Purpose
#2: Preserve Your Mental Energy
#3: Recover To Perform

In many instances, the best thing you could do for your game is let your body and mind rest; in other words don't work again, but recover properly after you have trained.

Do you experience any sort of mental fatigue from your excessive training routine?

Have you ever noticed yourself comparing your achievements to other people's? Have you ever wondered why you aren't "there" yet?

I see it in sport all the time, from coaching and business, to life in general too many people are comparing themselves to others rather than focusing on their own goals. The game of comparison can rob you of your confidence, motivation and enjoyment of getting from where you are to where you want to be.

In this week's episode, Dr. Callum shares his thoughts on how making comparisons to others can hold you back, the importance of concentrating on your own development, progression and purpose, and how this will further increase your performance and sense of fulfilment.

Truth is everybody is on their own journey at their own speed/pace and facing their own struggles. Therefore, the only comparison that is actually meaningful is the way that you were comparing yourself to who you were yesterday!

☑ Focus On Your Own Growth.
☑ Celebrate Your Progress.
☑ Trust Your Own Journey.

What is one aspect of your life that you stopped comparing yourself to others and started growing from?

The ready position and split step are fundamental elements of tennis that often go unrecognized. Proper ex*****on of these two techniques allows every other aspect of your game to flow more smoothly.

As explained in this coaching video, by learning proper ready position and split step for an open stance forehand, you can develop improved balance, quicker response time, and easier court movement.

Many players concentrate solely on their forehand, yet the secret is to put yourself into position at the right time to allow for maximum efficiency.

✔️ Greater preparation
✔️ Quicker reactions
✔️ More efficient movement patterns
✔️ More consistent forehand

If you concentrate on master the foundation, you will develop stronger and more consistent strokes.

Over many years I have found that typically, the largest roadblocks in coaching environments do not stem from ‘technical’ issues. Instead, these roadblocks usually are attributed to aspects of culture, communication, accountability and the way individuals demonstrate leadership behaviours.

During my next live webinar, I will be looking closely at:

The Leadership Divide - Building or Breaking Your Tennis Culture

Some of the subjects we will explore include:

✔ The way leadership habits have a direct impact on the culture of a team
✔ How to identify the unrecognised behaviours that can prevent programmes from achieving performance or growth levels
✔ The 3 Pillars of Great Leadership: Vision, Values & Vulnerability
✔ How to create stronger, long lasting coaching environments

Dr. David has an insightful nugget of wisdom about how consistency of effort sets the great players apart from the good players.

We all can have the maximum effort when we are highly motivated or having success; however, the challenge of having the same level of effort when you're fatigued, feeling frustrated or the conditions are not working in your favor is where the greatest test of your level of effort.

Long-term growth will not come from sporadic big achievements but rather from ongoing, consistent actions over a long period of time.

Tennis success is not necessarily about doing things in an unbelievable way; sometimes it's simply doing a great job with doing the basic fundamentals over and over again.

More insights regarding coaching and mindset to come!

Leigh Brandon, in the first part of this conversation, discusses the importance of training for movement and being able to play without experiencing pain. Too many times players think about only their physical technique and the amount of time spent on the court, but to continue to play competitively over time requires more than just these two things.

Players will also need:

✔️ To develop better movement patterns
✔️ To engage in smarter conditioning
✔️ To develop a body that can withstand the demands of the sport

These are just a few of the topics that are discussed between Leigh and other trainers in this first part. Access the video now on our YouTube channel and find out more about coaching via Tennis Works - https://youtu.be/i8SyN5_rSak
