A quick correction round on Start Up Loans, because most of the guides online are out of date.
The fixed interest rate is 7.5% a year, not 6%. It changed on 6 April 2026.
You can now be trading for up to five years and still apply, where the old limit was three.
You can apply for a second loan, on published conditions.
The individual limit is £25,000 outstanding across both loans combined, and there is a £100,000 cap per business across everyone in it. The "co-founders can stack £50,000" line doing the rounds is somebody's arithmetic, not a scheme rule.
And the part worth being clear about: it is an unsecured personal loan for business use. You are personally liable for it, whatever happens to the business.
Twelve months of free mentoring comes with it.
Checked against Start Up Loans and the British Business Bank on 22 August 2026. Message us if you are planning to apply and we will walk you through it. Applications are subject to status, affordability and lender criteria.
