As we approach the end of our first year of MSP Financial Solutions, it feels like a great moment to pause and reflect.

Starting a business is never straightforward, and this year has certainly had its challenges - but we’re incredibly proud of what we’ve built and, more importantly, the clients we’ve been able to help along the way.

One thing that has always been important to us is giving back.
Thanks to the support of our clients, introducers, and everyone who has been part of our journey so far, we’re really pleased to be making our first charitable donation to a cause close to our hearts ❤️

It may be the first, but it certainly won’t be the last.

We’re excited to continue growing the business, helping more people, and supporting more great causes in the years ahead.

Thank you to everyone who has supported us so far - it genuinely means a lot.

Paid in a foreign currency? Here’s what that really means for your UK mortgage.

If part (or all) of your income is earned in USD, EUR, AED or another non-sterling currency, the mortgage landscape changed significantly after 2016.

When the Mortgage Credit Directive (MCD) came in, lenders were required to treat exchange-rate movements as a “reasonably foreseeable change”. In plain English? Currency volatility had to be built into affordability assessments.

That meant lenders could no longer rely on a simple spot conversion.

They had to evidence how foreign exchange (FX) risk was mitigated.

The result:
• Some lenders stepped away from foreign-currency income entirely
• Others restricted the currencies they would accept
• Most introduced haircuts to allow for exchange-rate risk
• Higher loan-to-values became harder to achieve

And here’s the part many borrowers don’t expect:
Just because your income is earned and taxed in the UK does not mean a lender will accept it at face value.

The good news?
Major currencies can still be accommodated by selected lenders - but usually with deductions applied and stricter underwriting.

The reality today:
Foreign-income borrowers can still secure UK residential mortgages.
But affordability is often lower, lender choice is narrower, and outcomes are more policy-driven than they were pre-2016.

If you’re paid in another currency, the lender selection process matters more than ever.

Choose carefully.

One of the most common mortgage myths we hear?

“You need years and years of strong profits if you’re self-employed to get a mortgage.”

In reality, it’s rarely that black and white.
With the right lender, and the right presentation of the figures, self-employed applicants can often secure borrowing far sooner than they expect. It comes down to understanding which lenders take a pragmatic, common-sense view of income and how to structure the case properly.

Here’s a recent example:

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us in Jersey for our "UK Mortgage Solutions for Jersey Residents" event last night!

It was great to meet so many Jersey residents and talk through what’s actually possible when it comes to UK property - whether that’s relocating, buying a second home, or investing in the UK.

Supporting clients internationally while navigating UK lending in a structured, informed way is at the core of what we do.

Thanks Chris Barry at Thomas Legal London for coming too and covering the complex legal side of things.

We are around in St Helier until Saturday afternoon with a few meeting slots left, if anyone else wanted to get a coffee while we are here.

Few action shots below - should probably bring a photographer next time.

We had a fantastic first MSP Christmas party last night!

We started off the day with a few meetings including Vanessa Hunt now at the Hanley Economic Building Society - who is developing their criteria and creating an exciting proposition.

Then we had the pleasure of attending the Coutts broker Christmas drinks with Nick Jury, Kelly Stowell, Greg White and many more.

Finally we had drinks and a wonderful dinner with the MSP team and stakeholders who have also been essential to the success we've seen within MSP so far.

2026 is going to be an amazing year - and we celebrated every success of 2025.
