Exploring Greenwich with my daughter Illy, doing a bit of research for upcoming taxi tours and walks! Greenwich never fails to deliver on history and architecture. A few highlights from our day: The Old Royal Naval Hospital (Old Royal Naval College): Sir Christopher Wren’s masterpiece along the Thames. The Painted Hall: Known as Britain’s “Sistine Chapel,” featuring breathtaking Baroque ceilings painted by Sir James Thornhill. The Queen’s House: Inigo Jones’ classical beauty framing the iconic view down to the river. Greenwich Market: The perfect spot to grab a bite and recharge after soaking in all that history! Always love sharing these London gems with Illy—and bringing the best insights back to my passengers on the road.

Lock & Co. Hatters isn’t just London’s oldest hat shop — it’s believed to be the oldest hatters in the world. Founded in 1676 and still family‑run on St James’s Street, it’s a living piece of London history.

A favourite stop on Capital Cabbie Tours, Lock & Co. blends heritage, Royal Warrants and centuries of craftsmanship where London’s fashion, politics and culture have crossed paths for generations.

Step through the half‑glazed door and you’re greeted by the charming ding of the old mechanical bell — a timeless welcome.

Inside, the gentlemen’s department is a treasure trove: top hats, trilbies, fedoras, Panamas, sports caps… and of course the iconic Bowler Hat, invented right here and made famous by Charlie Chaplin. Even Bond’s 007 trilby traces back to Lock & Co.

There’s also a heritage room showcasing tools used to craft headwear for royals, aristocrats and celebrities over the centuries.

Upstairs, the ladies’ millinery is a world of fascinators, berets and elegant headwear for weddings, Royal Ascot and the Kentucky Derby — a true millinery haven.

Regent Sounds Studio, in Tin- Pan Alley is one of London’s premier vintage and new music stores. Some of the bands that have used the studio’s recording facilities in the golden era of the 60’s and 70’s pop music; The Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, Kinks, Who and the Beatles!
Today sadly the recording studio doesn’t exist, but instead you can experience firsthand where some of these legends recorded their amazing music and have the opportunity of purchasing some great equipment and guitars.

The Mayflower pub on the banks of the river Thames in Rotherhithe has to be one of the most charismatic and historic pubs in London. It has strong American connections in that it was near to this site that captain Christopher Jones initially took 65 passengers who would become the Pilgrim Father’s on their epic voyage across the ocean to the New World in the ship called the Mayflower.

YomHaShoah 2025.
Holocaust Memorial Day.
I felt privileged and very humbled to be present at the memorial service held in The Victoria Tower Gardens yesterday evening. The Houses of Parliament, the Mother of all parliaments and democracy acted as a fitting backdrop to a service marking 80 years since the liberation of Bergen-Belsen. This was “Once in a Generation Commemoration”. We heard the harrowing account of survivors, the heroic stories of British soldiers that were among the first to enter the camps to liberate these poor souls. The service was highlighted by children of several primary school choirs who sang so beautifully.
This will be a day I will never forget.
