Hestian Promoting carbon financed cookstoves in Africa. On February 7th, 2013, 72,972 GS VERs were issued from the Hestian clean cook stove project in Malawi.

Hestian has issued the first Gold Standard VERs from an improved cook stoves project using a suppressed demand approach. Since its inception in 2008 the Hestian project has focused its efforts on getting carbon finance to help ordinary Africans. The Hestian project was the first to be registered under the Gold Standard in Malawi, and has a unique model, with the cook stoves all manufactured in country by production groups of women using local materials.
