Attac UK

Attac UK This is the page for the newly created Attac UK. Attac has spread over many different countries but hardly in Englsih speaking ones.

The first Attac chapter was created in 1998 following an editorial in Le Monde Diplomatique (or LMD) with the first aim being the creation of a tax on financial transactions. Since then, Attac analyses spread over a wide range of topic all linked to global justice. Attac does not only expose the negative consequences of de-regulated financial markets, neoliberal trade policies and the privatisatio

n of public services. Furthermore, Attac develops concrete proposal for a different - more just - world. We say:
An other world is possible! Join Attac UK, UK is the country in Europe where Attac is needed. The center of the financial system in Europe needs to be challenged on its own ground. No we do not need a financial system like the one we have. This is bringing countries and peopes to their knees in order to please the rich and powerfull. The aim of Attac UK is to link the struggles. The austerity measures we face are a direct consequence of our financial systems, where banks are too big too fall and we, the citizens face the consequences. But not just in the UK the rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer. Together we are powerful! So we believe: Unite and fight! Attac is a global network which makes it easier to link the struggles, with shared campaigns and the same creative direct actions in many different countries on the same day. Welcome to become active with Attac UK because together we are strong! Our first meeting will be on September the 31st.

Protest for justice at the Barbican Centre. The cleaners were threatened with dismissal if they protest for the London Living Wage. This is a disgrace. Especially as the Cooperation of London which owes the Barbican centre is listed as London Living Wage employer! Please come in support at 5.30pm at the Barbican Centre. (Please also share and tweet.)

Preparation for our protest tomorrow: Protesting is not a crime. It is a human right! See you all there!

Preparación para nuestra protesta mañana: Protestar no es un delito. Es un derecho humano! Nos vemos allí!

The purpose of this blog is to provide analytical commentary on formal and informal labour organisations and their attempts to resist ever more brutal forms of exploitation in today’s neo-liberal, global capitalism.

Our friends from the United Voices of the World are looking for some help. Their membership is rapidly increasing. This is great news and testament to the strength of their community and commitment to fighting for justice and dignity at work. If you would like to get involved with the work they do then please get in touch with them. They especially welcome people who are bi-lingual in Spanish and English and/or are or want to be a trade union rep. But also non-Spanish speakers are welcome and people who would prefer not to represent but would like to translate. Please get in touch with them if you are interested in helping out and please spread the message if you can!

support the protests of our befriended groups of The Common House: 'Dear friends of the CH this is a call out for support with protest materials. There are 13 regular groups now using the CH and many many more one an irregular basis (see link below). The idea is to collect protest materials in the CH to collectively share them to make protest organising easier and cheaper for everyone. We need: Megaphones, banner making materials (paint etc.) and possibly some small drums. Please write us a message if you would like to donate one of these items or a financial contribution to buy them. Many tanks. CH'
