Unconsideredtrifles

Unconsideredtrifles Collector, maker and Ebay trader of scarves, shawls and fabulous vintage and contemporary textiles. Anne

As as a "snapper up of unconsider'd trifles" I'm drawn to bright and unusual things, and also source fabulous illustrations and small bits of bric a brac. “unconsidered trifles” reflects the magpie collection of beautiful, interesting or unusual things that I sell in my Ebay shop. Autolycus, the pedlar in Shakespeare’s “Winter’s Tale” says he’s a “snapper-up of unconsider’d trifles”- so am I! I mo

stly sell beautiful fabrics (many are vintage Liberty Varuna wool) made into simple but lovely items, mainly shawls and scarves but also, on occasion, cushions, yardage and patchwork pieces. This is supplemented by other bits & pieces that take my fancy, often also textile inspired (such as pocket squares, buttons, books, knitting and sewing accessories, pictures, vintage fabrics and lace). My textile heritage- father a silk jacquard designer, grandfather a draper/haberdasher and my own work running a textile teaching workshop at the National Trust’s Quarry Bank Mill- has led to a lifelong obsession with textiles- and a very full house! I started making shawls and scarves from my stash- which still forms the backbone of my collection but I’ve also managed to source other wonderful often vintage fabrics. I have a great time scouring mills, warehouses and auctions looking for fabrics. Liberty’s Varuna Wool, mostly well over 20 years old, features in many of my shawls/scarves. There’s now very little of this left and I’m always on the lookout for new sources and for other high quality fabrics, both vintage and new. At present I mainly sell on ebay- through my shop “unconsidered trifles”. http://stores.ebay.co.uk/unconsideredtrifles But if you want something special, contact me and I’ll see what I can do!

A very romantic view of Hackney. This is on the top of St Augustine's Tower in St John's Churchyard. At dusk last Sunday, we were entertained by this fiddler playing jigs, Bach and dusk music. Brilliant. Not open again until last Sunday in January (unless you want to see Father Christmas who is popping in on December 14.) Oh, is it really that time of year again? That explains why my eBay shop is so busy!

I've got some boxes of unconsidered trifles in my shop at ther moment. Bits & bobs , including some mysteries. Was thrilled to hear from someone who tells me what the strange little thing made of copper and brass, with a tube and a small scoop is. It's a ship's whistle, used to pipe an officer aboard. Fascinating. One of the reasons I love bric a brac is how it expands your "knowledge"- perhaps rather an overblown word in this context!

I haven't made a Christmas cake- haven't decided whether to qualify that with a "yet" or not. Suppose it should have been started 6 weeks ago. I've been listing little bits & pieces today- maybe for very tiny stockings- vintage Christmas cracker charms and the most delightful little eskimo inuit that was made for a cake many decades ago! Do have a look at the new stuff (coming all the time at the moment... odd bits of metalware later today!)

Have been making lots of unusual scarves from FABULOUS silks and wools this week. Feels like self-indulgence, they are so lovely to work with. Back to my roots and lots of Macclesfield silks, mixed with wools. Really difficult to pick a photo. Will put other pictures up later in the week. Please do have a look at my eBay shop and tell your friends about it too!

I've been selling lots of scarves and pocket squares this week. In fact, despite a pocket square top up, they are going fast. Magnificent Mouchoirs made brilliant squares as did Liberty. Mine are made recently from vintage yardage. Additionally there are some very luxurious hand rolled squares in linen and silk/wool mix. More coming soon. And if you buy three you can choose a 4th from me!

Been out of London this week but came back loaded with textile goodies, which I'll be listing on eBay as I convert them to scarves. Also topped up on pocket squares- am assured this really is the end of the Monopoly Magnificent Mouchoirs!
