Anyone else get a little confused with all the terms and meanings of your personal finance and banking?
Look no further, now if you've heard of Open Banking (check out previous Open Banking post fi you haven't😉) well... there's there's also Open Finance.
Now this can seem scary but we're here to explain!

Now, much like Open Banking, Open Finance allows access and sharing of your financial data (through your own personal choice to accept) just like Open Banking. Only now Open Finance means you can share your data to wider financial products and services! So in short, it enables integration of your financial data with non-financial industries creating a more personalised product for customers by the consumers that can see your data.

Again, the question of "is this safe?" arises. Rest assured, aslong as you have given authorisation it is safe, all providers are under strict data protection rules and GDPR. This includes giving you the information of what data they will use and how long for. BUT always check that the specific provider is authorised before giving your information. Any bad feelings, you should always always contact your bank to find out more.

Are you part of a Provider that includes open banking? Do you really know what that means?
Here's something to ease your mind and understanding of what really goes on!

First thing to know is Open Banking is an Opt In scheme, so it's up to you whether you wish to use it.

Say for example, you are making a payment for clothing through Klarna or PayPal. They will ask if it is ok for them to obtain your banking data to then proceed to make payments through your account.

But this isn't the only way it can be used, there is the use of personalised services for saving accounts, websites and apps through the data that is collect to help your financial situation.

Now, you're probably thinking "Is this safe?"

As long as you have given authorisation it is safe, all providers are under strict data protection rules and GDPR. This includes giving you the information of what data they will use and how long for.
BUT.. always check that the specific provider is authorised before giving your information. Any bad feelings, you should always contact your bank to find out more.

Everyone has a tax code but do you really understand it?

Your code is based off a percentage that can be taken from your income by the HMRC.
They consist of numbers and letters.

For 2022/23 the most common tax code is 1257L, now here's some of the meaning for some of the common letters that are used for your tax codes.
L = Entitled to standard Tax-free personal allowance
BR = Basic rate for a 2nd job or pension
T = Used by HMRC when your tax is being reviewed
W/1 or M/1 = Emergency tax code added as well as your regular tax amount

The numbers are based off an amount that you would earn in a year. So from the example above "1257" convents to:
1257 = Become taxable when earning above £12,570 within a years period.

To find your tax code check your payslips or log in to your GOV account and view your tax code there too.

For more information check the www.GOV.uk website to find out if you're on the right tax code.

With the Christmas month's coming up, spending is getting harder and harder.. not to mention the crisis that is going on!

So, here's a little way that could make all the difference:

Try the "30 day no spending" challenge, where you basically spend nothing other than your essentials.
This includes your outgoing bills, any pre-planned days and groceries. So take these away from your monthly income.
Then, all you need to do is not spend! simple!

What does this do you may ask?
It helps for you to see where you can spend more in certain areas and where to spend less.
For example, those nights out that you missed out on in that month, you realise you're happy cutting those down. Saving you money and pushing for the next month of saving!

This challenge can be done for any amount of time you like, but 30 days is short enough to not be too much of a bother to your life but also enough time to see a difference.

Interest is something you see everywhere, but do you know what it means for different situations?

Simply put, Interest is when a payment for a certain amount of money that is lent or borrowed over a period of time.
Either earn interest through lending your money to a bank (eg. savings) or pay interest when you borrow money from a bank (eg. loan),

There a multiple types of interest to look out for, so always do your research before simply accepting an interest that might not fit what you want.
