CORSIA reporting is annual, but the obligation to retire credits is only every three years. The phase obligation stacks year over year, with each year's Sector Growth Factor published at the end of October the following year. By the time the numbers are final, the phase has ended and you have three months to buy and retire the credits.

The EU ETS deadline is approaching.

If you are an aircraft operator reporting under EU ETS, you must surrender your 2025 allowances by 30 September 2026.

Miss it, and you face a penalty of €100 per tonne of CO2 equivalent (adjusted for inflation), plus the ongoing obligation to surrender the missing allowances.

What to do before the deadline:

Confirm you have access to your Union Registry account.
Purchase the required EU ETS allowances if you have not already.
Remember that purchasing and surrendering are two separate steps. Allowances sitting unsurrendered in your account still trigger a penalty.
Surrendering typically requires two authorized representatives under the four eyes principle, one to initiate and one to confirm. Make sure both are in place.

Start now. Do not wait until September 30th to handle all of the above.
