On 11 March 2020 the new Chancellor Rishi Sunak unveiled the first budget of the new Government.

He set out plans to increase public R&D investment to £22 billion per year by 2024‑25. This is a sizable investment, the largest and fastest expansion of ever expansion of public financial support for R&D.

In the Spring Budget, the Government aims to make the UK the best place in the world for R&D.
